Moan!!! Sorry… one of my pet-peeves. I dislike gender specific titles.
Actress, seamstress, hostess… the end additive implies that they are lessor and can be paid less… or has less skill for the job. And titles that ‘everyone knows the gender’ is worse! Nurse, witch, king, farmer… are just a few. This is the 21 century! It is almost 100 years since women have had the right to vote. Daddy’s are becoming acceptable to stay home and take care of the children. When do these silly jokes… no longer seem to be laughable?
Nice. Though when you think of it, why would any “wise” woman want to sit atop a lonely peak waiting for ignorant people to come up and talk to her. I’m thinking she would track them down and sort them out straight away.
So, this is not meant as a joke but as a commentary on how little progress the human race has made – it is satirical comment not humor (as much of Wiley’s toons are)!
It is not the word itself that implies inferiority or superiority! It is the mindset of the person using the word. Change your mindset not the language.
Reminds me of one of Graham Kerr’s stories (back when he was funny as “The Galloping Gourmet”). In short, man dissipates fortune, health and youth searching for the Meaning of Life. At death’s door, on a mountaintop, he discovers a guru who tells him, “Life is a Fountain”. After a prolonged, disappointed rant from the seeker, the guru says, very puzzled, “Life is NOT a Fountain?”
Astronaut joke from Sputnik era: Astronaut lands and is debriefed. He says, “We’re going to have to change our thinking about god.” The debriefer asks, “How so?” The astronaut replies, “Well, first of all she’s a woman.”
Well, he was probably expecting Whoopi Goldberg in a funny hat, proffering frozen, alien, non-alcoholic cocktails across the bar of the Ten-Forward lounge…
Most witches are women; most men are too-often trapped in the merely physical.
In Pagan times ‘wise women’ were the go-to for healing, prophecy, and connection to divine wisdom.
A preponderance of successful psychics, seers, and mediums are women.
Many of the ‘male’ psychics who passed the “repeatable experiment” test of science were (or are) gay.
Most men are trapped in the physical world alone – unaware and in denial that more exists beyond what their six-senses reveal. Except when they go into a church and pray to an invisible, intangible, imaginary being that was created by other men. Even that is a one-way street – except for the hucksters…

Same reason “god” brings a male image to mind. After centuries of seeing it portrayed as male, hard to think of it as female.
