“But just as a precaution, if anyone asks, they’re to tell the Martians that they’re Houyhnhnms, not horses. Trust me, it’ll make everything simpler that way.”
This leans into a theory out there, which I think is perfect.
Why, with all our potential, with all of our imagination, are humans still constrained to Earth?
We are, according to the theory, quarantined. The beings in the outer galaxy/universe consider human nature to be a disease, a plague, and one which cannot be allowed to spread. That despite our early advances into space, and our paltry explorations and probes, we not only have been visited by UFOs and other beings, but they are working to keep us from expanding our space programs.
It is only right that horses would be placed above us. Humans wreck everything we come across in the name of selfish gratification and profit. If we’re going to be allowed to explore and colonize, we have to grow up as a species.
The Houyhnhnms are rational equine beings and are masters of the land, contrasting strongly with the Yahoos, savage humanoid creatures who are no better than beasts of burden, or livestock. Whereas the Yahoos represent all that is bad about humans, Houyhnhnms have a settled, calm, reliable and rational society. Gulliver much prefers the Houyhnhnms’ company to the Yahoos’, even though the latter are biologically closer to him.
Wiley does put in a lot in every picture, and he doesn’t disappoint here either.
Note that D. is sitting on an effluent pipe…
Speaking of that, I wonder how they will deal with all that effluent on Mars, would it be radiated out of existence, or are they going to reach such a level of recycling that it would be reused ad infinitum.
Right now they are bringing it back to earth from the space station, but water is 100% recycled, and the feces is burned, or brought back to be studied, and the ashes are brought back too…

Io has some really nice volcanos sort of like Old Faithful but more colorful. I can see turning that into a tourist resort.

When Mar’s is colonized only the rich will live there, the rest of us will be left on Earth to serve their needs, that is only they no longer need us!

Horses are the perfect example of the difference between wisdom and intelligence. The wisdom of horses is legendary.

Unfortunately, having horses make decisions just might lead to decisions made by a horse’s a$$.

We may have already colonized Mars if the probes we sent there weren’t extremely thoroly disinfected first. Bacteria are quite opportunistic.

Um, Mars is freezing cold and all-but airless. It’s “the most popular resort in the galaxy”? What must the ‘people’ who use it look like??
