The Great Pumpkin is thought my most to be just Linus confusing Halloween with Christmas and Santa. I always thought it had religious overtones. The ridicule some people suffer for their belief. There was a nobility to their suffering. And the GP arcs got to be less noble as the years went on. Linus looks stupid, thinking a bowling ball or a cactus was TGPMirroring Schutz views on organized religion. He was quite religious early on but got angry with it later. He got a lot of flak from Christians when he divorced his first wife. And he hated the christian views on Homosexuality. He was very good friends with tennis player Billie Jean King and was vilified for it. In the 70’s, the strip got less religious especially with Linus asking “Has it ever occurred to you that you might be wrong?” at Bible camp.

    1) Fake news? (Which one?)

    2) Sally, you need to be careful if you’re going do battle against the Great Pumpkin. The world is full of pumpkin spies.

She’s also not like Sally in the sense that she punches harder. Much harder, Linus.

It is odd that the Great Pumpkin that Linus worshiped, was first in the cartoon in 1959. Schultz must have been psychic. Linus had the total faith of a true MAGAt, despite the fact that his deity let him down time after time. However, in his defense, at least the large orange entity he worshipped didn’t do any harm. He never dismantled a program designed to prevent a pandemic a year before covid hit. He never stole top secret government documents and did God only knows what with them. He never organized a coup attempt when it became obvious that he had no chance of remaining in office. Maybe we should all just go sit in a pumpkin patch.

Peppermint Patty can take the cold a lot better than Sally.

But she’ll be disappointed when only “The Small Acorn Squash” shows up.

You should have quit while you were ahead. A “myth” and a “legend” are less hurtful than a “lie” and a “fraud.” Good thing Linus probably doesn’t know this.
