All paintings make me feel like the artist is a fortunate soul to be able to have others see their work. Well, home builders too. And other architects. And City Planners. And computer repair techs. And nurses and doctors. And… well I guess just about everybody who does something gets their stuff seen by others.
A good art critic can help you to see and appreciate things that you might not have noticed on your own, as well as giving you some historical context on the painter and the subject. Nothing wrong with listening to someone else’s insights. Just don’t forget to look at the work and form your own impressions.
I’ve found these useful in many a gallery, beside some well-known paintings. ‘Is that what it’s supposed to be!’ Impressionism=life through box wine glasses. BTW, I really do enjoy impressionism. Pointillism is where it starts to get strangely ‘interesting’. (The artist had a LOT of free time.) Anything more abstract, I’m pretty much ‘out’.
John, I haven’t had the time to comment until now, but I wanted you to know that you’re batting 1000 with all of your editorial cartoons! Thanks for the perspective and insight (and the laughs we desperately need)!

I’d be feeling nervous, because I don’t know what germs were left on that button by the people who already touched it.

Looks like I’m starting on a walk through the wetlands, don’t step off of the boardwalk for fear of disturbing the indigenous plants.

I know of a ‘tagger’ who after time in prison became a legit artist and yes, he specializes in murals.
