A build up of ice on trees and power lines will result in power outages….slick, icy roads and walks…and just general mayhem. Back in 1998, New England and Quebec got three days of freezing drizzle. Quebec lost a dozens of power line transmission ‘towers’, not to mention trees down or broken everywhere. We live in western Maine near the White Mtns and we lost our power for two weeks and the tops of nearly every pine around the house and driveway. It was not a fun two weeks!

Sleet, Graupel or just freezing rain? Sleet would sound like rain.

Arlo is absolutely right. At 27 degrees F, not C, it would not be rain. It might be snow, or sleet, but not rain.

Hmm, Janis must use a different app than I do on my phone. The color green means rain…purple/blue has always designated snow. However, pink means there’ll be freezing rains and sleet. I think even the forecasters on TV have the colors designates as such.

Go to Minneapolis, you will get both.
