This reminds me of the spotted owl issue. Environmentalists use it as the poster child to save old growth forests where it lives. There is also a fungus that is endangered that also grows in old growth forests. However, owls are cute. “Save the fungus” didn’t catch on.
This actually happened. Douglas Adams tells a story in his book “last chance to see” about a multi-year conservation effort to revive some small game bird and when they released the birds into the wild some local rich guy saw them and organized a party to hunt them down and eat them. Apparently he thought that those delicious birds he hadn’t seen since his childhood had miraculously returned and his only thought was to roast them ASAP.
Scientists estimate that at least 99.9 percent of all species of plants and animals that ever lived are now extinct. The Milanese Wart Owl will now be added to the list. To bad it tasted great.

First I’d like to ask an expert, are warts contagious?
Can one catch warts by eating meat covered in warts?
Does it have to be cooked well done, or can the warts survive being cooked ‘medium rare’? Since I hate well done.

Kaputnik about 21 hours ago
Well, the bird that I’m cooking is clearly too large for that cage, so that can’t be it.
