I love how everybody leaps in to protect Beatrix. Such a skillful landing from Puck considering he had both eyes closed! Somehow he managed to avoid landing on the Robber Mice. Even though Tabitha clearly has Beatrix under firm control, somebody needs to find that little one’s “off” switch! All I can see of Elvis is the top edge of a poof.
It took me awhile, but I finally figured out the reason Puck looks so twisty is because he’s trying to hold onto his hat. I have a feeling the jaunty feather might be a loss!
I love Puck in this one! He is so brave! He makes a tremendous leap and is ready to take a swat at Tabitha to distract her from Beatrix, even though he knows that if he does, she will swat him silly!
I could use some positive thoughts today. I have to have some dental surgery. Not sure just what’s going to happen. It all depends on how much damage they discover once they pop off the old crown and see what’s going on underneath it. I’m not looking forward to it.
May get his/her name wrong but hope not. Has anyone seen Jimjazz post lately or heard from him/her? Over a week ago they posted that they hated their life and so many orbters posted encouraging thoughts, purrs and boops. Sure hope Jim is doing ok and sorry I’m probably getting his/her name wrong but couldn’t find the thread.
Pucky and Lupin rush to Beatrix’s defense. Such brave step-cat parents. But Tabitha recognizes that Bea has the makings of a future Alpha cat. All is good in the Big Pink House.
Hurrah for the GC site being back up! Don’t know how long it was down, but when I tried it 90 minutes ago and then a bit later, all I got was an error message.
Since so many of us love cats, I thought I’d share this here: https://www.gofundme.com/f/help-pete-the-abyssinian-wmedical-billsPete the Abyssinian needs medical attention, but his People are strapped for cash. His Woman owns an indie book store in VT (http://starcatbooks.com) and it’s the lean time right now (post-holidays, pre-tourist season).
Totally off topic, but it seems like BCN is my cancer support group. Yesterday my partner had his chemo delayed for a week because of low platelets. Everybody says it’s fine, don’t worry, we’ll give him a lower dosage next week and go back to every-other-week treatments after that. But they’d already gone from two weeks on, one week off, to every other week, and I am a natural pessimist, so now I think between the lower dosage and the missed treatments he’s going to die. Of course I know he’s going to die—we all are—(and honestly he’s a pain in the ass most of the time but I’m kind of used to having him around)—but I’d like that to be as futureward as possible. So maybe I’m just tired and depressed because it was an hour and a quarter drive each way to wind up getting no treatment, but I know this is a kind place, and I feel better just venting about it.
Now, that’s unconditional love! Everyone assumes Beatrix is in mortal danger and they rush in to her defense. Of course, if Tabitha really were angry at her, would three cats and four mice be any match for The-One-Who-Has-Captured-The-Red-Dot?
I got bad news about Jasper. He broke his leg AGAIN. The same one. I was outside with him and all he did was run around a couple minutes then he lifted his leg and I knew. I got him in the house and on the couch then went home and got his pain and anti inflammatory meds. He goes tomorrow morning for an X-ray just to make sure but wow poor guy. I wonder if this is going to be an issue his whole life. Maybe I can find or make some kind of brace after he heals again (like for human knees) to support the weak area. Three more months for him on a leash.
Our former vet, who specialized in cats, used “whacking” as a technical term. She said bottle fed kittens were “controlling” because they didn’t get enough whacking.
Being an Alpha female is like a knighthood. It ain’t just tournaments. Protecting and nurturing kittens is part of your code of honor, as is willingness to mentor a promising young squire.
“I’ll have to decide whether to have a bridge, implant, or just do without.”@SueEllen—Hello! I’ve been lurking and reading BCN and its wonderful comments for over a year now without posting (just laughing and crying), but I did want to give you some feedback re: this. I have an implant; the process took almost a year, start to finish, and came entirely out of my pocket (insurance usually doesn’t cover), but I have a functioning molar/chewing tooth that is exactly like a real tooth in every way, end of story. Trying to cope/chew/not drool with the gap from the missing tooth for a year earns my vote for not doing without if there’s any other alternative. What the dental pros may downplay, or not tell you, is that when you get a bridge, it is mounted by grinding down at least one tooth on each side of the gap. This kills these teeth, too, and then you will be looking at another 2 or so root canals a couple of years down the road. I’ve had only one root canal so far, and Cat willing, it will be the last. Sorry to just break in like this, but I hope this helps!
News from Georgia on Facebook about Sir Figaro: "I have some very sad news to share… The real life Sir Figaro Newton passed away today, after battling an illness. He was only ten years old, his Woman and Man—Emily and Joseph—did not expect to lose him so soon in life. I was fortunate enough to meet the real life Sir Figaro through the door, during cat sitting, or just dropping by to say hello when we all lived in the real Big Pink House. He was a warm, sweet boy. A constant companion to Emily, and loved his Man Joseph so dearly. When faced with an over excited Toddler who was so delighted to see his first “mow mow” beside Elvis, Lupin, and Puck, Sir Figaro looked our beaming, laughing, LOUD tiny son up and down and casually, kindly gave him a friendly little head bump. He truly was the sweetest.
I know readers will ask, so I will remind everyone that none of the cats will ever pass away in the comic. They will live on here for you and all of us real life owners, as it is hard enough to lose them in real life. In BCN they will always be healthy and happy and together. The real life Beatrix and Baba Mouse are no longer with us, and we all love them just as dearly. I hope maybe somewhere somehow today Figaro is being greeted by an enthusiastic Beatrix, eager to make friends and show him around. (Maybe Baba will introduce herself after Beatrix’ fanfare My heart breaks for Emily and Joseph, ten feels too young and so unfair. If you send them some love here, they will be able to see it. I am so grateful that they gave me their blessing years ago now to introduce Sir Figaro and Tabitha into the BCN world, and to all of you. So much love to Emily and Joseph, and their other fur babies Tabitha and Nimbus, today.Sir Figaro was not just a good boy—he was a great boy."
Aww, even the robber mice are preparing to defend little Bea. The little one in front of Puck has his dukes up and one in front of him is wielding her needle-sword. Tabitha isn’t going to hurt her, the trick is to keep Bea from attacking. Baby cats think they’re bigger than they are! :)

They keep saying this cat’s not to be messed with
They keep saying she’s an alpha, yes
But I’m ready to take on any kitty,
With one paw swipe I will show who’s best!
…….
These paws were made for swattin’
And that’s just what they’ll do
One of these days these paws
Are gonna be swattin’ right at you.
…….
They keep thinking tiny mice are helpless
They think that we’ll give up without a fight, Ha!
I’m no tailor, I am a real sword fighter,
Don’t mess with me, this needle will put things right!
…….
This needle’s made for fighting,
And that’s just what it’ll do!
One false move, and this needle will be
Be comin’ after you!
…….
You keep worrying’ something bad’s gonna happen
Just ’cause I am the one who caught the red dot!
I know a fantastic kitten when I see one,
We’ll all be fine, I like this gal a lot!
…….
This kitten’s made for great things,
I’ll see to it she will,
The orb is gonna rock with cuteness
And stories to fulfill!
…….
Are you ready, Orb? Start rocking!!!
