While kudos Lupin for opening with one of the most infamous lines in fiction (only “A Wrinkle in Time” did it right!) – oh no! Poor Elvis! You are very brave: no sarcasm here.
My enjoyment of storms has decreased significantly since I got Diesel. I really love them, but my poor boy is terrified of thunder and hides under the sink whenever he hears it.
Story: Thunder was how I knew Diesel was mine. He’d been hanging around my apartment, he’d stayed in the apartment a few times, we were friends, I was looking after him, but I wasn’t sure he was my cat. Then I let him out one morning and went off to a medical appointment, and on the way back, it started raining, hard. I drove into my apartment parking lot, and an enormous crack of thunder split the sky. And I saw this terrified brown blur race down the stairs from my door and dive into the storm drain.
He’d been waiting at my door for me, trusting I was going to let him in. And when I reached into the drain to get him – I know, I know, it was stupid – he didn’t even scratch me. He was so scared. But he knew me, and he trusted me, and at that point…he was my cat.
He’s snoozing on the coffee table next to me right now, very happy, and home.
It was a dark and stormy night. Some Indians were sitting around their campfire. Their chief rose, and said, "It was a dark and stormy night…. repeat until the teacher stands you in the corner. I have no idea who came up with this version, I just know my second grade teacher got tired of listening to the guys recite it. A joke that never ends.
Dearest Orbsters. It’s 3:55 a.m. Jasper is very sick. He is having seizures. He may be dying. The money is still in the gofundme and I can’t access it. The emergency service won’t see him without payment. Can someone text me at 951-772-6718. Please. I’m desperate
It was a dark and stormy night. Suddenly a shot rang out! A door slammed. The maid screamed. Suddenly a pirate ship appeared on the horizon! While millions of people were starving, the king lived in luxury. Meanwhile, on a small farm in Kansas, a boy was growing up.
Off topic here, I’m so glad my favorite comic is visible today, as so many of GC’s strips are not showing up! Good thing the family doesn’t live in Florida, where we have regular afternoon thunderstorms!
Ha, this is timely. We were in the middle of a crashing thunderstorm last night when I suddenly remembered I’d left the vent windows on our van open. Got soaked to the skin in the two or three minutes it took to run out and close them.
Here is what Georgia posted on July 13th and I am totally confused because I thought there was a 6 week lag time. “In a strange coincidence, tonight I happen to be painting strips about a power outage at the Big Pink House! I’m watching news coverage of the New York City outage and thinking of family and friends there. To all our readers affected by this, you are in my thoughts and I hope power is restored swiftly! Here are a few sneak peeks while I paint… It’s very surreal to be working on this tonight! Life has many odd coincidences!”
I love how Georgia lettered the storm! That RUMBLE has so much vibration in it, it made me think that that’s what the storm must feel like to Lupin. And that huge BOOM over the bed — poor Elvis!
We lived in Louisville, KY when my son was born & until he was 2-1/2. One night when he was about 1-1/2, a HUGE thunderstorm came crashing through in the middle of the night & my ex was absolutely SURE G would be terrified…until we heard a little voice in the other room yelling, “BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!” I went in G’s room & found him jumping up & down excitedly in his crib, loving every flash & bang!
Something similar happened that 4th of July when we went to see the American Wind Symphony & fireworks. G danced his way through the concert, & when the fireworks started, so did the “BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!” We were ROFLing & so was everyone around us. A few people even got up & danced with him! Good times… :-D
Where I live in FL, we get a lot of rain during the summer. I see lightening, I tell my two boys “boom boom babies”. And they are okay. Unless the thunder happens right above me, then the two cats have to peal MOM off the ceiling. :-)

Looks like Elvis is already wearing his thunder shirt . . . or is that his robe and pajamas? Rain gear, maybe?

Nice to see the news crew has backup power for their equipment. Too bad it doesn’t extend to the rest of the house.
