Goldie’s so cute in that little paper gown! :D And if it’s anything like the ones humans have to wear, it must be pretty drafty, um, around her tushy …
Just when I thought I couldn’t love Georgia Dunn and her creations anymore than I already do she slips in the most beautifully timed PSA ever. And she did it so beautifully and so smoothly oh wow 10 points
When I got our cats microchipped the vet reminded me multiple times to register the chips. Doing his part to combat this issue! The chips were registered that evening, complete with Sparky’s help because she decided to forgive me for the vet trip sooner than usual once she saw me trying to do something important on my computer.
At our clinic, they registered the chips for our kitties for us! I’ll have to check in on the 2 oldest though to be sure our information is linked. Thanks Georgia! ~Get better soon, Goldie Girl!
One other problem (at least in Australia) is different companies maintaining different registers, which some vets can’t access, or even companies going broke.
The animal shelter in Miami put a chip in our Foster but yes, you have to register it. He is now registered at both vets, Naples and Ontario, so gd forbid he goes missing, we have an excellent chance of finding him. (Not that he ever gets more than 5 feet from me lol!)
Good reminder, Georgia! I think all ours are up to date, I’ll double-check when we’re finally home from this hellish attempt at my right knee replacement :( Third try scheduled for Thursday.
Yah to my cats for scratching my knee and making the surgeon postpone the first one.. and to my own body for not producing enough platelets for today’s attempt SIGH
Get well soon Goldie….also sending out a huge barrage of boops, purrs and hugs to all for the holiday season especially for all the Orbsters dealing with health and other problems …. with a special bunch for Skipper dealing with nasty road accident injuries and totaled van (see his comment late yesterday).
Thank you all for your kind words of support on our loss of Joel Grey Cat. 17+ years is a good run.
On Saturday, my wife Marie and I were doing our rounds and we stopped in our Vet to pick up some medicine for the pooch, Iko. The vet is a little clearing house of kittens who don’t have homes. While we were there, we saw a 7 week old kitten in a cage all by herself. The Vet said that this kitten had been adopted but returned when the person wanted to go out of town and did not know what to do about the kitten.
By the way, who adopts a kitten and does not think ahead to what they are going to do if they have to leave town?
Anyway the Vet offered us the kitten, saying she was already paid for. So, let me introduce to the Orb: Ms. Holly Berry Cat, tabby, 7 weeks old, and the newest member of our family.
Belle is so excited to have a kitten to play with, Giblet is shaking his head…another kitten to train. Sometimes the best presents are the completely unexpected ones.
You know, I have no clue whether or not Yum Yum is microchipped or not. I seem to recall that the vet wanted some absolutely outrageous price to microchip her. I’ll have to look into that.
You know…at the risk of derailing the topic…it amuses me that we have absolutely no issue at all with tagging our animals with microchips…but the second you suggest doing the same thing with humans even if for the same reasons, everybody gets up in arms over it. :P
Check your microchip registrations! It really does work. My dog got out of the back yard when my sister was dog sitting and finishing a construction project on my house when I was out of town. I get a call from the registration company asking if I was still her owner. I call my sister who didn’t even know my dog was missing. Someone had picked her up and taken her to a local vet within minutes, who scanned her, called the company who then called me. My sister was then able to retrieve her safely all within an hour of her getting out of the yard.
1. Can a microchip become ‘unregistered’? … Meaning, could the owners have possibly tried to cover their tracks by cancelling it somehow? (Granted, it’s a slim possibility.), and,
2. I know dogs and cats can (and should be) microchipped, but how about other types of animals? (I have a pet rabbit). :)
I am so glad that she has found her forever home but I can’t wait to see what happens when the immovable object [Lupin ] meets with the irresistable tide [Goldie, the humans and all the other good boys and girls]
Our two are chipped, and we make them wear collars and tags even though they are indoor-only, just in case. (The tags say “If I’m outside, I’m lost!” on one side, and have their names and our phone numbers on the other.)
I had just started lunch when I saw Goldie in her medical gown. Nearly laughed my beard off. I think that Dr. Man has some very nice gowns – the paper ones don’t have little cat’s paws printed on them, like the cloth ones he has.
In case you missed it, Georgia has revealed an “Easter Egg” on Facebook and Instagram that Dr. Man appeared as a young man in the Christmas special.
Also, she posted pictures of The Baby (now 4) dressed as the “Log Lady” at the real Twin Peaks cafe (I had to look it up, didn’t follow the TV series). And, if you go to the cafe’s links, they also posted a picture of her on their sites!
I just reread the second Christmas Special in new format. I didn’t see the V.E.T. but I did find the episode where Lupin (or rather Fluffasaurus rex) attacked the Christmas Village.
I have a personal story where a cat went missing and was returned to me due to being chipped. Because of that, I found out that many people do not chip their indoor cats!?! Just do it! You never know when you are going to need that chip. I hope you never experience this, but without it, my Patina (who is my familiar / soul mate) would never have been returned to me. I did share a bit more of the story on FB today.
Some twenty years ago, a friend had to leave town on short notice and had already scheduled her dog’s vet appointment. I agreed to pet sit and take the patient to the vet’s office.
She told me the vet’s name was Dr. Human, which of course I found very funny. My friend had expected as much, knowing my sense of humor.
I only discovered upon driving up to the animal hospital that the doctor’s name, which was on a sign with the names of all the vets on staff, was spelled Huhman. I resisted joking with the doctor, certain that he’d been through that before.
[I’d once made a social error of laughing when introduced to a chiropractor named Dr. Akers.]
I just checked online and found that he’s still in practice in that neighborhood. Part of the entry….
“Tritt Animal Hospital has been serving the East Cobb area since 1990. Located in Marietta, Dr. Tyler Huhman, Dr. Patrina Beard, Dr. Scott Kelley and all the staff pride themselves in treating you and your pet as family!”
Didn’t have time to post this morning, but I received the highest of honors this morning – I got to pet Skywalker! (Yes, food was involved, and it only lasted for a second, but it’s still progress. I’m looking on the bright side lol.) She even stood up, as best she can, and leaned her head on my leg for a second like she sees McDuff do while waiting for breakfast.
Now if I can just convince her that the Christmas tree doesn’t need to lie down and take a nap…
Reboot was chipped after he ran off one day and stayed out overnight. We mostly try to keep him inside but I swear his middle name is Houdini. His chip is registered with PetLink and only cost $19.99 for a lifetime registration. So worth it.
