Oh, the recliner always scares me when the cats are around. I’m terrified I’ll try to put it back down and they’ll get a paw or tail trapped in the mechanism. For use only when I can see where all cats are!
All three of my good boys love the reclining love neat—one next to my leg, one snuggled on my arm, and one between my feet on the “little couch”. Or sometimes one curled around my head like a big fur hat…
That is my favorite spot on the weekends (especially in late fall when the weather has cooled off and FSU, USF or the Bucs are playing ball as I have an old Lazy Boy out on the lanai for days like that) when I have the chance to relax and yes the cats can be territorial about the footrest and will also take over the human’s spot if you get up for whatever reason!
My girl cat will climb on my left arm when I am in the recliner. She kneads my collar bone then puts her head on it and purrs loudly. She has put me to sleep more often than not by that trick. After she is sure I’m asleep and likely to move much, she gets down between my calves on the extension, pushes my legs apart a bit then cuddles in and goes ot sleep there for hours. Her brother waits until she has gotten between my calves then he lays across my chest, purring like a diesel engine. He’s heavy so I wake up and pet him, then he gets down on the outside of my left leg on the extension and goes to sleep. We can be there, all cuddled up for several hours since they target me about bedtime.
This is SO our house! As soon as the recliner goes up, a cat is there to share. We have 3 boys and at least one of them is on a lap or on the feet at all times.
Time for Murphy’s Law of Feline Frustration….just when your cat(s) are curled up in your lap, fast asleep, and totally adorable, you will have to go to the bathroom. So true.
Every night when I turn the light off and get into bed, my big girl, Tigger will give me a good night lick and cuddle next to my shoulder. While my boy, Cassidy, will settle at my feet!
We’re still having Sultan and Sheba spats once in a while, but Jason has seen them side by side eating dry food! We keep Sultan’s on a storage box in our room, and she likes being in here as well. Waiting to get a photo of it :)
They also love the top of the headrest. Unfortunately, one of them has gone to sleep more than once and slipped off (leather), then tried to recover dignity by pretending he meant to get off! LOL!
The “impossible” angle of the man’s legs shows the only real problem with recliners and cats. I may wind up with bow legs but the cat is just so comfortable – warmed by my legs and the heat coming off the TV screen.
“I Have a Dream” Day —This is the day Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. gave his “I have a dream,” speech. Considering the things going on in this country right now, I wish I could broadcast a recording of it so that no one in the country could avoid hearing it.
National Bow Tie Day —Bow ties are so much more practical than the traditional “four-in-hand” nooses that many men wear. This is not to say that ties, a holdover from the 17th century craven cravat, are in any way practical in modern times.
Red Wine Day —If you get red wine stains on your bow tie, you’ve had too much—something those pale, anemic white wines can’t do for you. (I’ll try to say something nice about white wines on their day, if it ever comes.)
International Read Comics In Public Day —Considering the come back comics, or graphic novels, have made, this is no longer a big deal. However, comic books, etc., have saved a lot of poorly taught, bored children from illiteracy—myself included. “Classics Illustrated” got me interested. It didn’t take long, and with a big assist from the school librarian (Thank’s Mom!) and I was doomed to a life of insatiable reading.
Crackers Over the Keyboard Day —Sounds like Lupin found a new way to make the Man scream …
Race Your Mouse Around the Icons Day —Another job for Lupin!
Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day —I think the love of our furpersons, and our love for them, is the only consistent, repeatable, though indirect, evidence of life after death. Why? Because it is questionable whether we, as a species, deserve the Rainbow Bridge. There can be no question about whether they deserve it, and any being with even a pretense of godhood will see justice done. Furpersons need no divine blessing. They are divine blessings.
That used to be the only way to get Smokey or the boys to sit in someone’s “lap”. Just spread the legs out and let them curl up on that part of the recliner (what eactly is the name for that part, I always just called it a foot rest but thinking on it now I assume it has a different name). Although when she was a little kitten before she was fixed Smokey used to want me to sit indian style so she could curl up in the lap for real.
Now, with an extremely rare occasion for Smokey, none of the cats do this. You climb in the recliner and extend the foot rest and you get furry beasties sitting with you alright. Actually, they may be climbing up before it’s extended, may even have to force them to move over so you can sit. Their called dogs.
I miss having a Lazy Boy Chair. My two cats had this crazy habit… They would come running… Together!… from the other side of the building. With a mighty leap they would pounce on the head of the chair… making it lay flat. They would hold on like a game of log rollers. After it settled down from all the rocking… one would curl up in the seat… and the other in the flat back. Sadly… Lazy Boy does not make chairs like they use to. I am a little ruff on them… and they break easily.

Ah, but as with so many good things, there can be danger – being underneath it when the “couch for cats” folds down can be quite unpleasant.

If one of my chonky cats lies on the little couch while I’m reclining, my recliner becomes an unrecliner.

Nice that Lupin is so thrilled with recliner. And what a lovely picture of Goldie curled on man’s lap in harmony with Lupin and Puck.

Oh, it’s so nice to be with you
I love all the things you say and do
And it’s so nice to hear you say
Come relax on this fine kitty tray
Man, I got the notion
You’ll be causin’ commotion when it folds
When you’re feelin’ down
We’re here to perk you up and help you to carry on
Aww, little things mean a lot
When you have a lap that’s empty
We’re here to fill the spaces in all the comfiest places
Aww, Man, I just gotta say
Oh, it’s so nice to be with you
I love to nap with you it’s true
And it’s so nice to hear you say
You’re gonna relax here every day

The Beatles: Golden Slumbers/Carry That Weight
Once there was a way
To curl up and snuggle
Once there was a way
To be the big spoon!
Sleep kitty cats, happily purr,
And when you wake there will be kibble!
Thoughts of ham fill your dreams
Purrs and skritches await you when you rise,
Sleep kitty cats, happily purr,
And when you wake there will be kibble!
…….
Man, you gotta sleep with that weight,
Sleep with the weight
Of Kitties!
Man, you gotta sleep with that weight,
Sleep with the weight
Of Kitties!
We never need any pillow
We always sleep with no instigation
And in the middle of the celebrations
We jump down
Man, you gotta sleep with that weight,
Sleep with the weight
Of Kitties!
