We got up to 36 this afternoon. I confess that I turned on the AC. It’s dropped back to 31 now (17:30), so it will soon be cool enough for me to turn the AC off.
No, I’m not gloating. Not at all. Honest!
Not a whisper of a gloat. Not even a tiny hint of a gloat.
Just keeping you abreast of what is happening in this part of the world. You do want to know, don’t you?
One night, I was out in the snow on campus. The full moon was low over the lake, a foot of snow was on the ground, and the fog was thickening. It cast everything in a soft silver glow that was absolutely magical. The silence was startling.
Many years ago I lived in a 4 family building with a nice balcony outside the second floor doors. It sat right on a nasty bend in the road, as that road proceeded down a long hill. That hill was banked a bit wrong as well. I loved when it would snow, or be icy, on mornings I was off from work. I’d bundle up and sit on that balcony with my coffee and watch the cars go around that bend, many of them sideways. Some fared even worse.
I see the new BCN finally appeared. I read it on arcamax, but I can’t comment there. I gave up checking here around 1:30 AM. I read a few more chapters of my current mystery ( The Incident of the Book in the Nighttime byVicki Delany) then came back to check one last time before falling asleep.
I just remembered…as a kid, when snow storms were headed our way, or already upon us….Our TV used to add quite a bit of red to the picture. It didn’t make everything red, but it certainly drifted into the red shades noticeably. It was, for that time, a very good TV. Good picture etc. But the snow really played with those colors.
It’s -12 here this morning. Poor Beau hates his booties so I let him out this morning without them. The deer were moving across the back of the acreage (surprisingly) and he was gung ho at 4am to bark at them until he realized how freaking cold it is out. Then he sat down curled onto his back with his back feet up in the air and one front foot up as well and just whined. Poor boy. He’s 90 pounds so no way can I carry him. I had to get treatos to coax him to get up and MOVE! This cold is a first for him. Poor guy.
I’m on a mission to catalog all the characters in BCN and then the story lines! Do any of you whiz kids remember when we first met the Book Store Lady? And also, a couple of times Georgia drew a map of the area around the BPH. Dates anyone???
It’s a lovely 33C here at the moment (after 31 yesterday) … perfect for heating up the pool to enjoy later with a glass of something tasty and a podcast on the speaker whilst gently bobbing about :)
I just talked to my granddaughters in Milton Florida. (near Pensicola) They got 9.8 inches of snow. While we were talking they got the email from the school district saying no school Thursday and Friday. They had the whole week off for Enzo. Her in Plytmouth Wisconsin it’s 10 degrees with a feels like -7. Plus snow flurries. Sad when Florida has more snow than Wisconsin!
Here in Portland, Oregon, we’ve yet to have it get below freezing. Usually by this point we’ve had several. Historically, though, February is the month that most frequently has ice storms, so we shall see what’s coming.
Do as you will. I feel that calling out another Orbster by name for a negative reason is bad form and contrary to the spirit of the group. To reach an individual Orbster, ask Denny Wheeler, who generously maintains a list, for their contact info. If anyone at all posts a “Like” you don’t want to see, simply hit the red X under the bell.

I like it when you wake up and realise it must have snowed because it’s much too quiet outside.

My comments for this strip at the end of yesterday’s thread:
What’s that “little thing that’s getting louder”?? A feather floofy????
Observation: Buzzy Mouse still looks really unhappy. When he’s unhappy, I feel unhappy. ☹️

Listen to the silence of the falling snow
Telling me just what a fool I’ve been
I wish that it would go as it’s cold and bright
And let me go inside again
The only thing I care about is far away
Kibbles in a brand new bowl
But little did I know that when when I went out today
The snow would give me such a start
Snow, please, tell me now does that seem fair
For me to be outside in all this cold and wet?
I can’t feel my little toe beans, or the tip of my frozen nose.
The only thing I care about is far away
Kibbles in a brand new bowl
But little did I know that when when I went out today
The snow would give me such a start
Snow won’t you listen, I love kibble so
Please, ask the sun to melt all this snow
Snow between my toes and and covering my tail, really make me cold.
Listen to the silence of the falling snow
Telling me just what a fool I’ve been
I wish that it would go and let me go inside
And let me be warm again
Oh, listen to the falling snow
Crunch crunch, whump whump
Oh, oh, oh, listen to the falling snow
Crunch crunch, whump whump

And now, an encore presentation of Meanwhile, Back on the Nile
Lupinium: I’m going on my morning run. Anyone want anything?
Puckmosis: Yes. Would you mind checking to see if The Royal Procurers are back from Afar yet?
Lupinium: You got it.
Thomios: And can you ask Arachna if the locusts have a plague scheduled anytime soon? We’re running low on spider treats.
Sometime Later
Lupinium: Arachna says the locusts are on winter break right now, and don’t have a plague scheduled until the end of February.
Thomios: I guess we can make do until then.
Lupinium: And the Water Cat Brothers said they’ll be out fishing next week. They’ve had Grumpy Turtle visiting with them this week.
Elvis-Anum: I’ll bet they’ll be glad to get out after a week with a grump.
Lupinium: I don’t know. You get used to it.
Elvis-Anum: Of course, I am only grumpy at appropriate times.
