I actually relate to Hobbes when I ride roller coasters.

Calvin managed a Loop-the-Loop without a roller coaster.

Is that a cardinal or a parrot? Maybe a hybrid of both.

Dad would be proud of Calvin this once. After all, crashing into trees and nearly getting killed (as Sonny Bono was) “builds character”!

If Hobbes is a figment of Calvin’s imagination, how can we see this from his viewpoint?

Side-note to women- Unless you find this funny-but-factual, you will never understand the male mind.

If anyone really wants to ramp up their anxiety for a thrill, search on YouTube for “Kilian Bron” and/or “owlaps” and include “megavalanche” or “les 2 alpes”. It’s a complete 40+ minute ride of extreme mountain biking with a bodycam attached to the rider. You’ll never catch me doing something like that in my life.

It is my youngest nephew’s birthday today. My two nephews went off on a snowboarding holiday yesterday and I hope that they are enjoying themselves.

Only Bill can make us feel the experience of steering on the downhill without physically doing it. Great art work.

At 73, this is how I do the thrill rides at amusement parks any more… the ones I can go on without getting whiplash.

That’s what Sonny Bono said. Or would have. If they did not have to hose him off the tree.

Glorious action and color. Great strip of Cal in action – as always in fear of his life while flying and finding a good reason to love it when he lands.

Few strip achieve a ‘heart in throat’ experience.

    Today’s strip should be applauded.

Ok if I’ve said it once I’ve said it a thousand times, there is no way on God’s green earth that this kid would be afraid of a silly little bicycle, no way, not a chance, it would be the exact opposite he would embrace it, let me at that thing., LOOK OUT HERE COMES CALVIN, BONZAI!!! Of course this is just a comic….lol

Imagine having a strip this well drawn in a newspaper today. There are well-drawn strips in the papers today of course but nothing like this.

Reminds me of riding a roller coaster. I was never a fan of riding them, but my daughter loved them, sooooooo I went with her on these rides. I used to close my eyes on roller coasters, but found that if I did have my eyes open, I could see what turns and dips were coming up next. This allowed me to prepare for them by leaning the proper way to mitigate my body’s change of direction instead of getting tossed about randomly when my eyes were closed. I was amazed at how much easier it was to ride them by having my eyes open…but I’m still not a big fan of getting on such rides.

It’s too bad more cartoonists haven’t been as ambitious as Watterson. Or some started out that way but lost it.

in NY we had sled parties when our hill was iced over. We had maybe 6-8 sleds and toboggans linked together- hands holding feet, and pine tree lining either side of the hill. what fun that was. Thank you Bill Waterson!

We used to sled down a tight foot path on a forested hill. Right at the end was a chain link fence – we needed to bail out before hitting it.

    Good times.
