luann's zit over 11 years ago
Gotta say it, this is kinda stupid. Luann has never been portrayed to be so level-headed and mature about anything, much less Tiffany and boys. Now she is supposedly cool and calm about a photo of her supposed boyfriend kissing another girl? THERE IS NO WAY LUANN PLAYS THAT COOL IN REAL LIFE, or even in fairy tale comic book land.

lynnskay over 11 years ago
Quill, Be professional. Play your part to perfection. Do not let your emotions get in the way of your performance. Get up there and kiss the girl, just as the script calls for.
That is exactly what he should do…on stage. No more, no less. Have the serious talk with Tiff off stage. Giving the director an ultimatum will NOT look good on his resume or help his career as an actor or anything else.
JayBluE over 11 years ago
Really, though, Qcumber is “saying the right things”…. but he surely waited for a while, like a late bloomer…. what if it was because he liked the kiss, but didn’t like the “exposure” that Tiffany caused?…. ( I know that he’s been drawn as mad, but there’s different reasons to get mad…. “players” gotta keep their game going… if he’s for real or not, maybe the “G-Man, junior FB Eye” can clear that up…)

Oh yeah, and Tiff better watch it or she’ll end up like the director. Real men don’t hit women, but Quill doesn’t have to worry about Tiff. She’s not a woman, she’s a &@^#% (can’t say it on a family forum).

So from the camp director’s presence in today’s strip, it’s official that Quill and Tiffany did in fact win that auditions for the leading roles in the play and aren’t just modeling for Gunther’s costumes? Congratulations, Q & T! Luann will have to put up with not being admitted to the camp while Tiffany gets selected as the best actress there. Let’s see how she handles that, next year!

Plus… in the photo it is obvious that Tiff forced it, and that Quill isn’t happy. It’s a kiss but not between willing partners.

“Quinn was invited by Tiffany. He’s no better than she is. He’s led her on coming to this camp”^That’s a good observation… he sort of used her invitation, and didn’t go out of his way to clear up what she thought was his acceptance of her invite…even though he told Lu he was doing it for his relationship with her….==And she knows that she’s “competing” with Luann….her motivation is that she can foster a more “solid” relationship with him than Luann…. she genuinely believes that L&Q’s relationship is only based on their long-distance chats, and that “she can offer more”…. this is why she’s been trying….not because she thinks she’s wanted, or delusional (not more than usually so) but because “she has been led to believe” such by the Qcumber….

Tiff “invited” Quill? And he “led her on” by “accepting?”Really??? So Tiff is in charge of who gets accepted to drama camp and who doesn"t? That would explain why Luann didn’t get in.
If I remember correctly, Quill thought drama camp would be a good way to get to spend the summer with Luann. He probably thought if they’d accept Tiff, they probably weren’t too picky, and they’d be happy to get some real talent like Luann.
Speaking of talent, if Tiff got the female lead in the play, that doesn’t say much for the talent of the other girls there. Now, if the director were a MAN I would understand why Tiff would get the lead. All she’d have to do is flash a little cleavage.
schmid13 over 11 years ago
He should have acted early because he now has a Tiger by the Tail. Tiff could be more dangerous as an enemy than as the interested party she is now. Tiff doesn’t care where her attention comes from – if she loses interest in the “Quill as boyfriend” she just might change things so that Quill is represented in a bad way – and it will happen before he knows it.

Tiffany needs a good spanking, they can turn it into ‘Taming of the Shrew’ and STILL get drama credit!

Well, Tiff in an age before camera phones would have a hard time to send it to Luann…Have a compact camera (probably an Instamatic)handy, wait ages until the film is exposed, then take the film to a drugstore for developing, then put the print in an envelope and send it! Revenge is a plate best served cold!

You’re not very experienced with professional acting if you recommend to an actor that he should not let emotions ‘get in the way’ of a performance. My cousin acts and teaches acting; actors are urged to call on their emotions to make their performances real.
I’m surprised you didn’t just call for Evans to send Luann’s ‘comforters’ (as in Job’s comforters), your secret love Bernice and Delta, to show up at Luann’s and tell her what a waste of oxygen she is.

What do you write?^Well, it sounds clichéd, but I write poetry, prose, and song lyrics… not my actual day job, but has been a passion for a very long time…. had opportunities, but have only been published in small print (very small, actually… some HS and a little bit post HS)… I have not aggressively pursued it as a career, mainly by choice, not because of chance…. I have received positive criticism and the lyrics that I wrote even led me, at one time, to different opportunities musically…… ==And along the way, in my studies of writing styles, it led me to appreciate the beginnings and development of the spoken and written language, and the thought processes involved, which is why I was commenting on the site mentioned….

@Q Werty: Part of the long-term appeal of this strip has been watching Luann grow up. Her relationship with Quill has caused her to mature; go back and look at the “locked bedroom door” story arc if you want proof.
Luann knows Quill is here for her, not Tiffany. He stayed with her and the rest of the DeGroots over Independence Day, not with Tiffany.
Luann also knows that Tiffany will always try to manipulate people into positions that she can try to use for her own gains. It had to be obvious to her that the George & Martha picture was staged, because she knows Tiffany would do such a thing without a second thought.
The real question here is going to be whether or not Tiffany learns anything from Quill knocking her down several notches. My guess is that she won’t.
rustiwriter over 11 years ago
OK this has gone too far…I have an idea what happened. I bet Tiffany…er, “Sheraton”…volunteered months ago to help send out the letters…and made sure Luann got rejected. Now…Quill needs to man up and say I Quit or something, and then the counselor lady asks him what is wrong, and he says “I flew halfway around the world to go to this drama camp with my girlfriend, and she did not get in”…and then the counselor lady says something like…“why not? We did not reject anyone”…or something…then Tiffany tries to sneak off…the jig is up…and next scene, Quill and the counselor are ringing Luann’s doorbell, explaining the mess, and she gets to go to camp and Tiffany…er, Sheraton…gets kicked out! PLEASE let it happen!!!
luann's zit over 11 years ago
Okay, so if I may ask the “Luann is all grown up” crowd, what was that recent strip about where Luann went storming into her house screaming “I HATE TIFFANY FARRELL?” Honestly, I forget, but I thought it was about something pretty trivial, and also something about Quinn. It would be possible for Luann to be this Zen Master of a teenage girl who lets everything roll of her back, but even her friends think she is a self-centered drama queen, as we learned on the Bernice/Delta road trip. I don’t buy that a girl who is portrayed as dripping in insecurity is okay with her boyfriend kissing anyone else. If anything, it is a missed opportunity for comedy and tension in the strip. Otherwise, if both Luann and Brad couple happily, there isn’t much left for this strip to be about.

Why are people assuming this drama camp leads to something real? It is a bunch of high school kids being led by a dopey teacher that wanted to make a few bucks this summer instead of sitting at home watching soaps and wishing someone loved her. Summer programs like this are babysitting jobs so Mommy and Daddy can go on their cruise alone. No way Hollywood is knocking on the door looking for these talentless kids.

And what a failure of the staff at Pitts High School if half their student body is sitting around daydreaming of becoming professional actors.
overtherainbow over 11 years ago
Why are people ragging so hatefully on Ms. Manezon? I like her a lot. What’s wrong with a drama teacher working with motivated students in an immersion setting? At least she has a job doing something related to drama! Most actors never get work. A book I read some years ago about acting said that if you wanted to be an actor but there was anything else at all that you thought you could bear to do for a living, do that instead, because it’s almost impossible for actors to make a living acting. Said it’s even harder to make a living acting than it is to make a living writing. Yow!
luann's zit over 11 years ago
Sara, let me rephrase that. I consider it a failure of imagination on Evan’s part for all of his central characters to want to be actors. Though 3 students virtually does amount to half of the student body, given the number we ever see. ;-)
This camp was said to be pretty good, not “prestigious,” and it was said to be so so Quinn could persuade his parents to let him go. I grant that there are prestigious day care facilities in most towns, but those also are not frequented by Hollywood talent scouts.
