Theirs is the only car at Makeout Point, on New Years’ day just after the dance? At least Luann knows where it is. I doubt that Brad has ever seen the place, and of course Gunther is aware of its existence only as a topographic feature.

@mikeyj and fathergod: I think Dirk was training to be a cop while he was working as a garbage man. I don’t know if he ever interacted with Luann or Quill, just Nancy, Brad and Toni. Did he meet Luann when they were helping Mrs. Horner move?

And I think it’s a long way to assume a pregnancy will occur even if these two do go All the Way in this arc. My take on Quill is that he’s plenty bright enough to either have brought some protection or not do anything too risky.

My take on Luann is that this is the first time she’s been with a real boyfriend, and as a senior in high school she feels “it’s about time!” She wants to prove she’s a grownup when she isn’t. Quill is a grownup, and will prove it.

How much does anybody want to bet that the first person Luann calls tomorrow morning will be Tiffany?

Honestly, part of the problem is generalization…. numbers and reasoning tend to be similar to how it goes on the talking heads shows… if a camp is for it, they’d agree with the numbers/reasoning… if against, they’d disagree… but as I’ve said, before, not everybody falls into the types of “camps” that you are setting out… – Speaking of the “Cartoonists’ Studio”, Greg has made it clear there, that he’s not going to push the subject, nor shy away … but as with everything, there should be balance… He seems to try to walk that “fine line”… he won’t alienate any segment of the readers over any other…

And the general metro area where I live, was known to have the highest birth rates among teens… some perceived it as seeming to come from not speaking of sex but was also blamed on media (prevalence of sexually provocative attitudes), and a lack of education (whether through parents or media or schools) about the realities and responsibilities of the consequences (having children with no means to take care of them, for both “inner city” and “suburban” situations; also the transmission of STDs)… – And don’t get me wrong, Sex is not a dirty word, nor a dirty act…. but the question is, how is it responsibly portrayed?…. That is the key… and not everyone would object to realizing that things can get “hot and heavy”… whatever all of our attitudes are, the spike in teen pregnancies aren’t always correlating to shunning, nor advocacy… whether either is real or perceived….

Things change from day to day! In the middle of the night, when I read today’s installment, it occurred to me that the car is in what appears to be an obvious “parking” place. Therefore, I speculated that such a spot might be patrolled by the police. Yesterday, I was wondering if “let’s wait until we’re married” would come up; I now feel that the beam from a cop’s flashlight will keep that from happening! Will this be the old case of “coitus interruptus?” Anyway, it was worth wading through the stale Gunther & Rosa situation last week, in order to get something that makes one wonder, “what next?”

Sadly, this is true… – But, as a JW, I have a personal conviction that there will be a time that we don’t have to worry about dying, anymore… I don’t want to de-rail the discussion, but I just wanted to express what personally helps me cope with this tragedy….. especially as in recent years I have lost dear friends and loved ones, even in the past month, this is what personally helps me cope (Ps. 37:29, cited here for reference, only)…So, though right now it is our reality that we get sick and die, I hold my head up with hope in this….

Luann is growing up appropriately for such a romantic young (horny) woman, which is perfectly normal actually. She is going to the next stage in life, as are all the characters. Is this the beginning of the end? Nooooo Greg, what will I read in the paper guaranteed to make me smile?

“Girl” falls in love with “Guy” who is out for fun with her and girl, girl, and girls. A girl snares him by secretely going off the pill, four years later leaves him for his best friend, pulls the same stunt with his best friend. “Guy” tries to go back to “Girl” three times over as many decades. “Girl” asks “Guy” how he remembers her after third try. “Guy” says, “Kind of slutty.” So Luann, listen up, but you probably won’t. And, guys, listen up. Never trust the girl to keep using birth control, so become a customer of the drugstore. There are things worse than buying contraceptives and the clerk asks, “How’s your mother?” Believe me, I know.

You know a cop’s going to show up.Cars are pretty uncomfortable to do a lot of things in, though.

Kissing, hugging, petting, wooing. Who knows what next they’ll soon be doing?

I recall a Mad Magazine parody on that poem. A Dr. Seuss spoof called “The Cats are all Bats…” about very bad adults doing very bad things… In this case, a “a cheating couple.” The end of the poem read:

    Loving…Kissing…Billing…Cooing…

Who knows what they’ll soon be doing…

    Husband…Wife…Father…Mother…

Both are married…but not to each other!"

I remember that one. It was subtitled “My first book for adults”. I think it was Frank Jacobs who wrote the article, while it was drawn by the legendary Bob Clarke.

The other poem I recall the best is about a mugging and the unwillingness of people to offer support, etc..

    Hark…Hark…Clark’s in the park…

Clark’s in the park and he’s being mugged (what an easy mark)…

As Clark gets jumped, 3 cops take flight…

And six other people run out of sight…

But along comes {insert name} who sees the fun…

And isn’t the type to turn and run…

He pitches right in… Kicks Clark in the {rhymes with "splotch"}…

And helps himself to Clark’s “Benrus Watch…”

Said Clark, before the scene dissolved…

“It wasn’t much, but I got involved.”

The only thing I can offer is the song “Yes Sir, We Have No Bananas” and my personally autographed copy of a Eubie Blake album….. and my copy of the first “Archie” from the 40s, in reprinted form….

Depends on your definition of ‘mid-size.’ What I see advertised as mid-sized used to qualify as a subcompact.Fortunately when I was dating, I had a full-sized car and I do mean full-sized.

I stopped following for several years but now I’m binge- reading. The song that comes to mind is Paradise by the Dashboard Lights. Though Quill would not put that kind of pressure on Luann.
