I am posting this message I posted at the end of yesterday’s strip as a copy. I hope that maybe it helps cool things off so we can get back to Luann and company. By the way 90 days for a honeymoon!!! Good grief, what passionate kids we have here. YOu can be sure the Captain will not approve that.

Here is the copy: Only posted in hopes that it helps foster comment based on the “About Luann” just to the right of the blog thread:

Man, this is a blog about a comic strip I assume we all love. I mean it’s fine that we can disagree. I just wrote a response about purging of people of color. I expressed my feelings about it, and my belief I have unique qualifications to discern whether racial purging was occurring, which I don’t believe it has, but one can have a different opinion. I disagree, but I respect the right to express it, and I would never be personal. I mean life is too short to spend most of a blog comment day having to defend or accuse someone or a number of people of things they said which were perceived or meant as insulting personal, derogatory, etc. One thing I can tell is that generally the people on this blob whether they are generally positive like me, or more negative like others, are quite intelligent and highly educated. Can we talk about Luann and company, in the spirit the comic is written, without being personal, or insulting, or puerile? I don’t mind debating, in fact we happen to be in a country where speaking your mind is constitutional (lol). Lets speak/write our minds for fun, and not for personal shaming, anger, or in effect, whether intended or not, bullying someone to the extent they feel they have to defend themselves.

I was an airline employee when I married my wife. We had a big job come up at our wedding time, so I couldn’t get a single day off. We took an out of town friend of hers to the Atlanta airport, and I said “Let me show you how our pass works”, So we got on the next plane that happened to be going to Orlando. We spent the next day at Sea World, I think it was, and returned to Atlanta. I caught hell from my co-workers for having a one day honeymoon in Orlando. (Later, when the work crisis was over, we had a real honeymoon in Europe.)

Posters from the 11th of January created scenarios of emergencies happening on the wedding day and would have to either post-pone ‘til the next 9/11, or pick another date. Those predictions make sense to me because taking a cynical perspective, I have never felt Brad & Toni’s relationship has been fond and close, or has a natural flow to it. Just a gut feeling. Of course, it could also reflect on so many other couples who got married and shouldn’t have, or went against better judgements.

I wouldn’t even have the GALL to ask for so much time off! That’s a sabbatical. And being young, they haven’t worked long enough for THAT. Two weeks, max. Hey, don’t they realize they have a lifetime to spend together and there will be other vacations? And isn’t that better than 3 months all at once? ….and when do we find out about Quill and Luann?

When my wife and I got married, I had been in Corps for 3 years and six months. I put in for 120 days leave and was denied it. I requested Mast and the battalion commander told my CO and platoon commander they had to give it. When I got back to Okie, I was transferred to Treasure Island Marine Corps Base in S.F., CA, for EOS, end of active service for two months. All I did there was enjoy another two month honeymoon.

I assume they’re joking, but I’m also wondering what they might have up their sleeves… Maybe Meh-tdology is on to something with his off-hand maternity leave comment. Not for maternity leave, but… some employers do give new parents that much time off, and some extend that parental leave to new adoptive parents. Could Brad and Toni be planning some family bonding time with Shannon?

6Hah, the idea of a 90 day honeymoon would be wonderful! Too bad it can only be requested in jest. :)Just a new thought that I had (perhaps others suggested it and I did not notice)….. with the somewhat “controversial” idea of Toni and Brad having a 9/11 wedding…. what if the story arc is being written so that when they go to meet the Captain, he is not pleased with the idea and will not agree to it? I wonder if that would be a way Greg (and Karen) would go with the story arc? I tend to think the idea of the Captain disagreeing with Toni and Brad is an unlikely one, but…. it would indeed be an interesting twist for the two of them to have to deal with.

Both my husband and I were in the military when we got married. We were unable to get more than a 3 day pass right after the ceremony, but we were able to arrange a two week leave a week later. So we had three days in a motel, then we both went back to our barracks for a week, then went on a two week honeymoon, then my husband was transferred to another post when we got back! The first three months we were married, I got two three-day passes to go visit him while waiting for MY transfer to his new post to come through! We will have our 54th wedding anniversary in June, so it apparently didn’t do any lasting damage!

Interesting point, Implausible! All the firehouse events I have heard of HAVE been a sort of “community event” sort of situation. I guess that could be another way for the Captain to force Toni and Brad to nix the 9/11 wedding date idea. However, even though I think it would be great to have the wedding a different date and it would be fine if the Captain were the reason why the 9/11 wedding date is changed…. I really doubt my idea will come to fruition. I doubt Greg (and Karen) would have led us on with the 9/11 date for so long unless they really did plan to have the characters have their wedding on that date.

I believe FMLA (Family and Medical Leave Act) may allow up tp 12 weeks off, but without pay. Don’t think that applies here. Why take a 90 day honeymoon if all you are going to see is your hotel or motel room? LOL

    Can’t stand the truth-

“Truth? You can’t handle the truth”…

Here’s some of it from Florida, where I live.

The Florida Retirement system, which covers fire fighters, deputy sheriffs, teachers, office workers and so on, provides an average annual payment of about $18,000 to each fire fighter or police/deputy retiree, and $16,045 for ‘others’ (teachers, engineers, surveyors, clerks, etc.)

These retirees are part of an existing ‘defined benefit’ plan that they each paid into, and their employers paid into. And the amount that individual employees pays in has increased in the last few years.

The changes that the Legislature made to the pension program in 2011 has increased the payment from public workers into the plan by a total of more than $1 billion to date. This change represented a reduction in pay of 3% for each worker annually, and most Florida employees are already compensated less than fire fighters, teachers and comparable workers in other states.

The average salary of a Florida participant in the Florida Retirement system is $42,026.

If these are your ideas of living with great wealth, I’m guessing you and Scrooge are good buddies.

We got four days and went camping. The first night was spent in the car (small car) after the tent collapsed on us in a heavy rain storm. So, we rented what the park called a “lean-to” which was actually a heavy duty, roofed, log structure set on a beautiful, raised wooden platform with just one open side, and a nearby rock barbecue with a small wood pile. Georgeous site in Vermont. I hope it is still there. I think they are joking in the strip about 30 days.

Depends on the situation. Like I was saying, I had more time off, and I would have gladly taken it, but I was thinking of my coworkers and the load of work we would be “swimming” out of, had I done it, at least at the time that I was requesting. – However, on a sad note, there are some who unfortunately have sad circumstances that befall them, even during the time of their marriage. For instance, a person diagnosed with a terminal disease may get married and perhaps the employers would understand and grant them that time, due to the nature of the situation. – There are probably other circumstances, such as caring for a parent that may arise during such time (even as the Bible says, “time and unforeseen circumstance” can befall us all) or perhaps the situation of needing/wanting more time can happen for more joyous reasons.

@blunebottle“PC has usurped that right! At one time people could express their opinions, but now the left-leaning media and is followers blast anyone who expresses themselves contrary to the lefts wishes. This s no longer a country of free speech – one of many reasons why Trump is doing so well politically.”.

If they blast them with contrary speech, that is not depriving them of their right to speak..

Freedom of speech doesn’t mean the first one to speak can’t be disputed..Trump isn’t even limited to only speak the truth. It is sad so many don’t seem to care about the truth..On the other hand, if we limited our support to those who speak the truth, we might not have enough politicians to fill all the jobs.
