Stephen: Hey, Staci...I know we've had our tough times, but when you first met me, did you ever feel like you'd won the lottery? Staci: I felt like I was on 'Let's make a deal' and when they opened the curtain, I got a cow. Stephen: No one will get that reference! Staci: Moooooo.

You do have some readers that are as old or older than you, so yes, we do get the reference.

If you’re wrong about people getting that reference, you’re probably wrong about people appreciating your puns, too.
debra4life1958 over 8 years ago
I got that reference also. What does that make me? Almost 60, that’s what!! (Well, in 2 years and 1 day, that is.)

Wow. Now I know how my late mom felt when she spoke of watching old shows like “The Show Of Shows.” It seemed prehistoric to me, even those it was only a few years before I was born.

I am offended!
Brian Fink over 8 years ago
“Let’s make a deal” is on the game show channel “Buzzer”. I swear, I only found it by mistake in flipping around!
GreenIrishEyes over 8 years ago
A goat. It’s always a goat, not a cow. (BTW: Goats are cute!)
Keith Mefferd Premium Member over 8 years ago
I enjoyed that show, too. I was a kid then, but I thought the farm animal was more often than not a goat, which would have fit the strip better anyway ;-)

Let’s Make a Deal is still on, so I don’t know why no one would get the reference.
Daniel J. over 8 years ago
Um, a lot of us fans are a lot older than you think, Stephan.

Could have had the curtains drawn in the first panel.

Perhaps she would have preferred A LIFETIME SUPPLY OF RICE-A-RONI, THE SAN FRANCISCO TREAT!
Devo27 over 8 years ago
NeedAChuckle got it. Wayne Brady is hosting it, with announcer/cohort Jonathan Mangum.

The show is iconic. There is actually a probability mathematics principle referred to as the Monty Hall Problem. It explains why, after having chosen 1 of 3 curtains and elimination i of them, your best bet is now to switch your choice to the other remaining curtain.

If you watch reruns of the show on GSN, you’d get the reference.

I’m old enough that I get the reference from when it was originally on TV

The Gong Show was better.

“Ding Dong School” with Miss Francis? Boy oh boy – I sure remember that program. I was glued to the TV when that show came on. Anybody remember “Lunch Time Little Theater”?
Queen of America over 8 years ago
I get it. Also remember Miss Francis and Ding Dong School.

Yeah, I haven’t seen a cow as the big zonk of the day. But a mule, well saw that a couple of times, once with a cart. Just watch Let’s Make a Deal on Buzzr if you weren’t alive when the show was on to get the reference to today’s strip.

I think it was a jackass, which in this case, may be appropriate.

I got it. I used to wonder if the contestant got to keep those farm animals. What if they were farmers???
dadoctah over 8 years ago
I’ll bet you didn’t know that Carol Merrill is the aunt of actress Carla Gugino.
Sisyphos over 8 years ago
Cartoon-Boy in his basket on the porch (because Staci has kicked him out of the house) is so cute, just like a tiny puppy—and about as bright as one not yet trained, too!Mooo to you, C-B!
del_grande Premium Member over 8 years ago
I guess Stephen doesn’t watch CBS in the mornings, or at least the hour before The Price Is Right…
mjb515 over 8 years ago
I expect Stephen’s line in the last panel is what the real Staci said when told about this strip.
mgstrick over 8 years ago
Sadly I am just old enough to get the reference

I once watched an episode of “The Price is Right”. I’ve also seen “Jeopardy” and “Wheel of Fortune”. I am not over 18.
