I’ve read there are some polygamous cultures where it’s one wife and more than one husband (polyandry). Toni’s lucky enough to have one husband.

Dang, comic interruptus!! Well lets see where this arc takes us. Next time we see Piro, or TIffany, or Bernice, something else will happen, but maybe the arc we finished, apparently Saturday will resolve.

Ah, the joys of communal living! I miss having more than two adults handling housework! I remember what a blessing that was, back when I was a newlywed. I hope the cartoonists let Brad and Toni appreciate TJ instead of listening to all the readers who want to get rid of him just because that’s the way it’s always been done (in their experience, anyway.) Why should everybody in a household have to be linked by either romance or kinship?

Today’s comic looks like a Sunday strip (stand alone). Maybe tomorrow we’ll see Tiff & Piro mingling with Les & Pru at Weenie World.

Might as well stay in your shorts, Brad, it looks like Toni wears the pants in that household. I tend to agree with Enigma’s comment. They should have started out alone in Toni’s apartment where only the bedroom would get messy.

be careful what you wish for. Some commenters last week wished TE would move to a new arc… and poof they did. I just wished the would have completed the last one. I really want to know Piro’s backstory, and where is he gonna stay now ( ok and I guess I want to know what happened to the missing TV). This is just Team Evans way of making sure we keep coming back so we can find out… later down the road.

It’s work if you want the relationship to last. BUT, don’t burn yourselves out either, find a balance. Some things can be put on hold for another day. Vacuum every couple of days, laundry not every day if you don’t have children, etc. etc.

So, the Odd Couple, AKA Brad and TJ, have jobs too and the routine housekeeping got away with them. They have jobs too and they’re trying to keep things nice for Toni. Good for them for not living totally like slobs.

I did read that Millennials are big on communal living. Roommates carried to the 21st century. Part of it has to do with how expensive housing is relative to what young millennials get paid.

I don’t know how this “relationship” will play out, long term, but I would have to think that, at some point, TJ will leave the house. I can’t see him remaining there, especially if Brad/Toni want more “privacy” and want to start a family. How that happens (i.e. will he leave on his own or will he be asked to leave), will be interesting. And what role Shannon will play in all this remains an interesting prospect.

This arc of the three of them “cohabiting” actually has some promise. However, if it is all smooth sailing, there is little dramatic appeal. When Shannon gets dumped with them, how will TJ react? I am here because I like to see how people share and untangle their feelings. I am a little disappointed that we never saw Bern and Tiff work through anything. And Piro, for that matter, might as well be a drugged gerbil. Let him loose Evanses!

@BRDSHTT & JPUZZLEWHIZ: It does help to soak onions before cutting them, but I’ve found that when I leave the onion in a shallow bowl of water and actually cut it underwater, I have no problem with my eyes at all. Onions dry off easily and then can be added to whatever dish you’re making with no probs.

@DNTME: The shortage of women in China (and similar dictatorships) is not because of a ‘liberal’ policy on abortion. For many years, Chinese families in cities were limited to a one-child policy by their Communist central government, due to fears that the country would not be able to feed an exploding population. (Farm and rural families were allowed more than one, due to the need for farmworkers.)

    .

For urban families who defied that ban, there were often forcible abortions administered. And for those who weren’t caught, and had a female baby, the babies were often abandoned in the countryside (where it was assumed families would take them in because of the need for farmworkers.)

    .

The emphasis on male babies in Chinese traditional society was partly because it was always assumed that the man would take care of his parents in their old age, while a girl child became part of the family she was married off into, and wasn’t available to take care of her aged parents. And partly it was because, like a lot of societies, boys were just valued more highly than girls…

These are all chores the 2 guys would do anyway. Toni probably does her share of the work so being married would not be any extra work. I hope Evans isn’t implying that men are slobs and only clean up when a woman is around.

Here’s a helpful trick. When peeling or cutting onions hold a couple wooden kitchen matches in your teeth with the heads out. The match heads absorb the fumes & save your eyes a lot of irritation.

I wonder how long Toni’s shifts are. These two slobs sure made a big mess while she was gone. It’s looking like Brad will be seeing less of Toni in the story lines now that they’re married. Before, B&T nearly always appeared together in the strip. Now it’s Brad & TJ together again while Toni is off firefighting. For years, the Evanses have given Brad the short end of the stick when it came to his relationship with Toni. Looks like that’s going to continue.

    .

Mixed feelings today. I do think the Brad/Toni/TJ arc should prove to be fun, but at the same time, I feel a bit of almost “whiplash” at the abrupt turn away from the Piro saga. I should have realized we were due for a change (three weeks seems like a maximum length for any part of an arc), but I was hoping to have at least a few days of getting to learn at least a few things about Piro.

    .

It is sort of interesting how the “amoeba” wallpaper showed up briefly, but then must have swam out of view! :)

    .

I guess when Toni is away, Brad and TJ continue to live life like college roomate bachelors (slobby, messily and cluttered as hell). :)

A lot of comments on the domestic workload issue I see. Keep in mind that they all work full time, especially Brad and Toni. Firefighters do long shifts, typically 24 Hours On / 48 Hours Off, and can be +50 hours/week, if not more. Food service work (TJ) is its own thing, but can be many hours as well. So, doing a bunch of domestic work in a short time, including dinner prep, does not appear unusual to me.

    .

My question is: Will they do this same thing 5 years, 10 years, or more? Hmmmm…

I know this is just like a soap opera where they have multiple storylines intertwining, sharing the spotlight, and keeping viewers glued " till next time". Unfortunately I have some family medical and job emergencies to deal with. Therefore, I may just have to be content to check in and read the comic from time to time over the next few weeks to break the tension. I probably won’t have time to read the comments or put in a reply. Hope I don’t miss too much. So take care all. This is one time I wish they had a " cliff notes" version to these comic strips… Or a way to speed up, replay and turn back time ( yeah I know there is the archives … but at least for once I can wish for something to be settled in a reasonable manner). But then I don’t want Greg or Karen to be out of a job as so many of us are facing that already. Take care everyone and be kind to each other. Treasure what you have and what you can offer. I will check back in again, hopefully by the first day of Spring.

Guys procrastinate. Left on their own, they might do nothing for as long as they could still function. Marriage can be helpful in getting guys to accept the fact that they no longer have maid service (i.e., an indulgent mommy).

Toni is good for Brad. But I still think TJ must go!

The comments are really funnier than the cartoon. I thought Toni and Brad should live on their own and concentrate on romance for a while, because like it or not, the reality sets in soon enough. Corpcasselbury doesn’t think that I am a gentleman, LNOFT 97 thinks I must be some kind of trailer trash, and best of all, Trilogy refers to my? thinly veiled sexual references. Yep, that one is the closest. Thinly veiled is so much sexier than sweaty, buck naked, red neck humping out in the mud behind the barn. But, like the guy sang, “I can’t get no satisfaction.” Gunther and the hot Rosa: nothing. Gunther and the sex kitten, Tiffany: nothing. Luann and Quill: a couple of near misses. Thank goodness, Nancy and Frank still generate some suggested heat.
