I’ve the same feeling Tiffany might shut the door at the girls’ faces too not wanting their aide.

Hallway only, as I had thought. But only as the last panel, which never occurred to me.

Wow, this is really strange. For as long as I can remember, the new comic appeared at The Other Site first. This time, The Other Site still has its September 21 comics up, but here at GoComics we can see the Three Musketeers off to try their best to fix whatever ails Tiffany. I’m happy to see that Dez managed to set Bernice straight about the fact that this is not a study in one of her text books. Now to see if Luann is right, and Tiffany will just tell them to take a hike…

I think that they should go without too many definite expectations about results.

It’s unpredictable just how Tiff will react to these do-gooders, two of which are long-standing rivals.

How are they going to greet Tif when they see her? “WE HEARD YOU GOT FAT AND WE ARE HERE TO HELP”

This is not worth an intervention and frankly just bad manners.

The implication from this visit is that somehow skinny Tiffany was not deserving of tea, pamphlets or hugs before. I might slam the door too.

Lets hope for a breakthrough. Either way the arc should tie up by tomorrow, maybe. Who bets Tiffany slams the door? Who bets the other? We used to have a poster who did polls. This is perfect for a poll.

You could say you tried. And if Tiffany does slam the door on your faces she will have the memory of you trying to be a friend to look back on and keep her warm when she’s old and lonley.

From yesterday, several posters – especially SukieCrandall – convinced me that Tiff has, in fact, been a true bully to Luann, back in the past. I wasn’t reading when Tiff took photos of Luann in the locker room, and disseminated them to a bunch of guys.

I had only seen Tiff and Luann being snarky to each other.

But now I’d say, beyond doubt, that Luann is justified in her snark toward Tiff. However, Luann may now have a good opportunity to make things much better in the long run by showing Tiff that she cares, and is willing to get past the hate. Decisions like that are personal choices, but indicate some maturity.

Valerian tea can cause insomnia and should not be drunk before using heavy machinery.

Well, it looks like Our three Young Ladies are gonna try a little “Tea and Sympathy!”

Can’t they talk Bernice into leaving those #*@%ing pamphlets on her bookshelf? That’s the kind of thing you bring only if a prior discussion opens the door for it. Something light like, “We need a fourth for tea” might work.

In the case of such radical change it is perfectly acceptable for friends to find out if this is where she wants to be. When I lost a lot of weight in a short time, my friends would comment about the loss and ask was I sick or was I trying. I recognized their concern and appreciated it.

I may be wrong, but I think most girls who were feeling down like Tiff seems to be, would welcome friendship and a little girl talk. This would almost be like the mothering she never had. I hope this is a turning point and the start of something great.

I honestly want to see Gunther’s role in this. Is it possible he hasn’t visited her all summer? That seems pretty terrible if true.

They knock on the door, yell “Trick or Treat!”, rush in, take all the food, then haul. A sensitive way to handle a sensitive situation.

In case you’ve never had the pleasure, valerian tea is Hideous!!! Smells like moldy garbage. But it could certainly curb her appetite.

Hah! The Spanish translation of this comic says it is vegetarian tea (té vegetariano).

Well, it’s not the real world. In the real world, it would probably be better for one person to just talk to her than for three to descend at once, unannounced. “We’re here to help you, even though you didn’t ask us for help!”

Right now, the only friend that Tiffany needs is Gunther.

As I see it, 3 possibilities for Tiff’s new appearance -1. She is eating more because she’s distraught over her not being as popular as she was in high school;2. She is putting on weight for a new role; or,3. She is having an allergic reaction to new make-up.

Of course, only time (and the Evanses) will tell.

Let me defend Bern with her pamphlets. Today colleges and universities really push “Wellness” centers. Now don’t get it wrong, they are not some touchy-feely new-age thing that is a fad. They really try to help students find resources to deal with personal issues which might otherwise get in the way of completing their academic programs. Young people have all kinds of issues in college, and they often don’t know what to do, I teach in an urban community college, and just one example was a scared, pregnant girl who told me she was terribly afraid because she was pregnant, and she and her boyfriend did not know what to do. I referred her to the Wellness Center, and they got her directed to where she needed to be. End of story? She got an A, had the baby, got pre-natal care, and from our perspective is probably transferred to a 4 year university. And even better, the father? He became a man, in the right way. So no those pamphlets are important, and perfect for Tiffany to consider.

What if Tiff’s not in, having gone out to wallow in her misery.

I’m going to laugh if they get to her room and she finally opted to clean up and get dressed and it turns out she was just “puffy” from having just woke up or dealing with a cold or something.

Hmmm, the best psych person is a neo-hippy and interestingly she’s probably the most original out of the three of them with other people. But then Bernice is dealing with her problems in life and Luann is still lost in competition. The best ending would be if they found out Tiffany had been working out over the summer and had Gunther for a boyfriend.

Tomorrow – Tiffany was wearing a fat suit for a role she was studying for. She wanted to see what the reactions of those around her would be and will also enjoy the consternation of her friends when they show up to “help” her and she’s back to her usual self.

The story between Gunther and Tiff really never went anywhere when Tiff changed into a towel and both of them were looking at each other.Next you know he is outside the door leaving the room.Makes me wonder if they did the deed.You have seen Tiff look at Gunther and wanting Gunther to connect with her.The fact that Gunther has not looked at the emotional needs of others as of yet and only his own so far.

Though they were friends at first, until Aaron Hill…then ‘frenemies’….then friends in volleyball…then ‘frenemies’, again…then friends then frenemies (seems like they go through this cycle on as lot of other occasions) this strip here (that has them together during the first week of college) shows there’s still some kind of hope for Luann and Tiffany to be more cordial and at ease with each other….

Srsly… An undetermined dermatological event. I had one of these in early July. 6 days of steroids and I was good to go. Symptoms – swelling, itching, redness, rash, and face swelling. Tiff will be ok.Tiff is way too vain to purposefully gain weight for any reason. I’m betting my last $.25 on this.

If Tiff shames the door that would be a great way to end the arc.

Isn’t “free hug” an oxymoron?

Explanations we can reject out of hand: fat suit, puffy from oversleep, and cosmetic reaction. The last is possible, but inconsistent with her last conversation with Gunther, where she mentions trying a new cosmetic, but even that doesn’t help with feelings of loneliness. Well, I hope I am right. Those explanations would cheapen the comic.

Lots of fat chicks displaying their insecurities and self-delusions in this comments section. It’s a COMIC STRIP, ladies.

Tiffany refers to parents (plural) when they were thirteen or fourteen.

I am interested in when she wound up being in only her father’s care, if there were past references to times when she would see her mother, and what happened as part of wanting to know what pressures Tiffany is living with.

Certainly, we know from past strips that her father ignores her a LOT, that this has hurt her badly, and that she has used spending on clothing and more (thinking back to a mall trip which was depicted in the long past, as well as her comments to Shannon at the Fuse Talent Show about no-show fathers and substituting glam for attention).

Her mother is gone now, but why and where? Do they ever stay in touch? If her father prevented that in the past can she get around his knowing and track down her mother by now using a phone with records he can not access and using the help of friends?

Sometimes people have to build their own families, and find ways to make up for the lack of guidance they got from thier own – better maturing late that way than not doing so at all. In Tiff’s case it may ultimately come down to that.

…and she’ll be back to normal because Gunther was over working on prosthetic makeup and his work fooled Bernice.

Everything is cool but the pamphlets. LEAVE THE PAMPHLETS, YOU DWEEB!!!

It’s really just a fat suit Tiffany is wearing to help her gain better empathy regarding her fellow man.

Also, there are three of them and Tiff makes four, yet there are only three teacups.

Ma-a-an, most of the people who contribute comments to Luann over time are apparently Platinum members of the Overthinkers Society.

Dudes and dudesses, this is a COMIC STRIP. More nuanced than most, but a comic strip nevertheless.

For a long time Tiffany has been depicted as sorely needing someone in her family who can just love her and is not a chronic no-show. I think that being in a setting where she has so few friends on top of her long-term family problems is an incredible burden. (Remember Tiffany at the talent show when she helped Shannon and what she said then as well as other times.).

She might turn out to be someone who eventually has to create her own family, and perhaps has made a start in that direction by getting along so well with Gunther’s mom as well as Gunther, and depending where the story leads also getting along so well with Mr. Grey. Not all family is related.

Still, I think it could be a great arc if she and the others work together to try to find Tiffany’s mother. They might not be able to. She might have passed away. In that case they might still find other family. I think that coukd help give Tiffany a future. For example, through having a need to help grandparents (not by throwing money at them but hands-on help even though that can be daunting) who Tiffany never knew she had might give her an incentive to learn more about PT, OT, or respiratory therapy. THERE OFTEN IS NO BETTER WAY TO GET BEYOND ONES’ BOUNDARIES AND GROW THAN HELPING OTHERS.

I know, i know – the last few days have been like a river floating me to the wishes i am expressing today. Still, i have another! I want to see Tiffany bluntly tell Leslie that he should be grateful for the way that Mr. Grey has been trying so hard to help him, even when Les’ behavior is awful.

Tiffany was bewildered by Bernice’s surprised look and questions. Tiff doesn’t seem to realize she looks any different.

They need to see what is wrong and why she is acting and looking this way. A visit to an ER is not out of the question. Remember when Gregory House would send his irregulars to search the houses or apartments where the sick person lived can give results?

I do NOT know if lupus is among the autoimmune diseases for which steroids are used, just that some steroids can cause not only fat gain but also edema.

Man the overall scope to these comments indicate a cold-blooded, lack of care or sympathy group of inept pretend comedians, so-called. At least in my view. Lets see what happens though, maybe that is what Greg has in mind.
