I am loving this Tiffany. Showing her softer side, showing a milestone – a first sincere apology ever, and hugging. I hope never to see the old Tiffany ever again. Am I asking too much??
Can’t they knock us out once in a while with a Sunday zinger?? We are in the Fuse basement – young women in lingerie running around. One of them whispers to an older guy, “OK Mr. Farrell – your last night of freedom!” Then Monday we start a new arc, like Brad & Toni are trying out Fay for watching Shannon when needed. The two kids are exchanging role playing lines and Shannon is having fun…
If we temporarily leave Tiff & Gunth in this promising situation, we could return in a few weeks to see them on a nature hike. Gunth is looking into the stream and writing stuff down. Tiff is in jeans & t-shirt, a few pounds lighter, with a camera for taking photos of flowers and cute animals…
There’s again the expressed urgency to get back to the Ann / Fuse story. Most still refer to it as the lingerie party. Does anyone actually expect it to be that? I’m willing to bet that none of the merely naughty or outright salacious guesses about the event will be the reality we are finally presented. No, not even the gambling conclave some expect. Oh, it will be evil, it will be nefarious, it will be vintage Ann. But I still expect revenge to be the main aspect of whatever she’s planning. If it were any of those other things, why here, why the Fuse? She’s a sophisticated world traveler. There must be a million better places to stage any the fever-dream schemes that have been entertained, a million easier venues in which to hide such goings on, and probably many in which she wouldn’t have to hide anything because it would all be business as usual.
I have a sister that eats to cope with emotional pain. She’s a “big girl” as a result. I think if she had someone to hug her, she would be better able to cope. Too bad she lives 6 hours away from me. :(
Awwww. Seeing these two finally hugging really started my morning with a smile. I imagine we’ll be going on to other stories Monday. But this was the perfect way to end this arc for now. Nicely done, Gunther. You were a great friend here.
Bet Luann and co. try to get Gunther to spill the beans on what’s wrong with Tiff and he refuses to tell. Somehow Tiffany will end up thinking he did though…
Not a bad way to end a fevered arc, that shows growth on both Gunther’s and Tiffany’s part. Now we, 9 out of 10, will start new arc on Monday. Will it be Ann, or something else entirely? One of the reasons one can get so addicted to Luann, you never know what will happen next.
I agree, this is probably a good place for a break in this arc. We have other things upon which to catch up. We have Ann Eiffel renting the Fuse. and what happens there. We have Brad/Toni… We have Pru and her student.
This is a good start for Gunther & Tiff. We’ll see where it goes. But a bit later.
Okay, that tugged at my schmaltzy old heart. Someone once asked me on this site, how can you be intimate without being sexual? Please study the last panel.
Pedantic: ‘Drop your hand. Your quotation marks are showing.’
Cavalier: ‘The last fashion, friend, that scowl? To bring more business to the mirror vendors?’
Emphatic: ‘Tis to misquote from Young Frankenstein. Put… the… rulebook… back!’
Dramatic: ‘Tis more red written than the congressional budget!’
Admiring: ‘Do you hire out to chase away unwanted relatives?’
Lyric: ‘Nobody knows the trouble she’s wrote.’
Simple: ‘When is the encyclopedia to be published?’
Rustic: ’That squeaky hamster wheel alwalys sounds like a bedspring!
Military: ‘Dismount!’
Practical: ‘Get a boy friend!’
—Such, my dear sir, is what you might have said, Had you of wit or letters the least jot: But, O most lamentable man!—of wit You never had an atom, and of letters You have three letters only!—they spell A**
I’m ready for Tara – but I don’t have any good ideas where the arc would go. Tara obviously needs a reasonably responsible type friend – and Luann needs to branch out – including moving away from home. I’ll have to wait for the muse to strike Greg & Karen.
I wish people would stop trying to make this scene into something sexual. I can’t imagine anything more inappropriate. Earlier in the week, Gunther came across more poised and confident (than usual) when he was talking with Bern, Dez and Luann. He has the confidence now (it seems) to deliver that which he senses Tiff has never received from her father, a hug and a shoulder to lean on.
Super … Duper … SWEET !!! And speaking of sweet, from the box, I didn’t know Greg Evans was breaking into the donut business!! Good for you, Greg! Keep branching out! ;)
I liked today’s “Luann” very much, but it looks like we will get a new arc Monday. However for me, the elephant in the room has been that it’s all about what Gunther can do for Tiffany. A good relationship can’t go on that way. As I have said before, I wish Tiffany would bring up Gunther’s reaction to Les at the dinner party, and point out that Gunther seemed jealous. If Gunth could fess up to this, it might help immensely, because it means that Gunther needs a girlfriend and likes Tiffany. This would open the door for Tiff to send some of those magic signals that create an atmosphere of intimacy. Wonderful if Gunther likes it and finds himself thinking about Tiff more and more.
Just being present…when our friends are in crisis, they don’t need advice or our sage “wisdom”…they just need to know that we are there. Good work, Gunther.
Nice strip today. I like the subtle expressions in panel 2, both Tiff’s and Gunny’s. And the Hug in panel 3 is momentous. Maybe this is just the right therapy for Tiffany in her loneliness….
The big issue is that she will grab onto Gunther for support and once she is “back to herself” she will dump him and leave him feeling like crap. Again.
There are people who still do not understand that there are NO SUBSTITUTES for emotional intimacy. NONE. Tiff has lived a physically, material, and financially privileged life … and yet none of that seems to have made her truly happy. Now that her father, who she has apparently been seeking for that intimacy, has transferred it to someone else, the real Tiffany has come out. Has there ever been a scene depicting Tiffany getting anything but material things from her parent? Has he ever been depicted by Greg in the strip? And to add to it, I can imagine Gunther’s character having enough ethical sense to take advantage of Tiffany at this time .. even if she wanted him to, it would still be abusive. Like taking advantage of someone who is intoxicated. I don’t think Evans is depicting his body language here as anymore than as it should be – a hug, not a prelude to seduction. If Evans hasn’t suggested that they’ve been intimate before now, when Tiffany was in better spirits, why now? And I doubt that Evans is shaping Gunther to be her lover, but her FRIEND. It’ll be interesting to see if he develops it to a relationship … but I think that Gunther is still a little lost after leaving Rosa. >Awwww, Tiffy have a meltdown because daddy doesn’t wuv her exclusively?? Poor widdle baby!!!!<
Haven’t seen anyone note that the Evans(es) have giving Tiffany & Gunther the same problem. Both characters are afraid of having their relationship with their single parent disrupted or displaced by parent’s new interest in another adult.
