Looks like a H. G. Wells’ sequel: The Invisible Woman. The art police may pull Greg’s art license for shortening Tiff’s arms by 6" from panel 1 to panels 2 & 3. That spotlights the dumpiness of her body.
Disappointed in you, G & K Evans. You made it a weight issue, but then, it’s Les we are talking about. A slinky and shallow kind of guy. Tiffany, if you want to manipulate Les, you gotta take off that grandma jacket and scarf – pronto. If you could, maybe rip off the length of your dress up to knees. Show some legs. Lose some buttons at the top of your shirtdress – show a hint of cleavage. With extra weight comes with becoming more buxom which is to your advantage so use it. Good Luck.
I’m not going to try to argue that Les isn’t shallow – but I would point out that he has only met Tiffany once before, so it’s not entirely surprising that her new appearance would throw him off. But yeah, if Tiff we’re looking for a friend, she’d be much better off with Ox, who wasn’t thrown by Tiffany’s uncharacteristic wardrobe and visage.
That was her idea of a seductive outfit? She looks like someone who’d like to speak to your manager, if you don’t mind. I do feel kinda bad for her though. Hopefully she doesn’t take his reaction to heart.
I think Tiff is going to have to come up with a plan “B…” maybe a plan “C…” if she’s going to “control Les.” I think Les is going to fly as far away from Tiff as he can, once he realizes that’s her. Shallow, indeed! Ox would accept Tiff unconditionally, as would Gunther. But I don’t know if Ox can help Tiff the same way Les could (in re: getting access to the next Lingerie party, and to Ann). We’ll have to see.
Team Evans ACTUALLY continued the current storyline WITHOUT Interruption. I’m pleasantly Surprised.
Now Down to the Nitty Gritty. Once “Thug Life” gets over the “Shock” of the “New Tiff,” WHAT will His Next “Reaction” Be? IMHO, the New Tiff STILL looks fairly attractive although looking a bit a bit older. I don’t think that Les is going to reject the New Tiff as many think. And there lies the “problem.”
“Thuggo” has NOBODY and Tiffany is still Lonely, so I still say that putting these in close proximity is inherently dangerous. Sure, Les will let Tiff in, but at what “Cost?”
Also What Reason, If Any, Will Tiffany Give as to Her “New Look?”
When will Tiff find out that Les is Actually Ann’s “Son” And will THAT make any difference to Scumbag Les?
Hoo-Boy! Talk about “Making Luann Great Again!”
I’m brewing a fresh Pot of COFFEEand Staying up Late for this Arc.
Tiffany is still a beautiful young woman. A bit zaftig, but many men love this. She could still “rock” her curvier body. No need to be frumpy. Like others said above, show off your curves! Les(s) is not more! LOL
Boy the first impression posts are so critical in not necessarily a good way. Focusing on Tiffany’s weight gain, and not wearing her usual “sexy” flirtatious clothing. Lots of stuff to chew on there in the middle of the #me too movement. I am not going there on this particular panel, not knowing how far, or where this particular comic gambit will go, but I do think the idea is that the Tiffany that Les remembered is not the same that actually is standing there, but that does not necessarily follow that somehow she does not know how to start her plan to “take down” Ann, and separate Ann from her father. One bigger wrinkle to me is that she does not know that Ann and Les are mother and son, and I think that whole relationship thing is important to both of them, him with his “evil” grifter mom, and her with her rich, absent dad. That is more important in my mind.
So far I like it! She’s turning on the “off” switch on Les. I dont dislike Les that much anymore but I still want Tiff with Gunther far more. And she does look nice and mature. Can’t wait for the “face paint” and “helmet hair” to go as well. I would like to see her try a more “Toni” kind of look.
Hate to demean my own gender. But it is stereotypical that Les has one image of Tiffany on his mind, and, completely misses her when that image doesn’t meet reality.
Unfortunately, I find today’s panels challenging to believe. Even with some amount of weight gain, there is no way that I can believe that Les would not have recognized Tiffany. So, today’s effort leaves me a bit disappointed.
However, after the “recognition” panels tomorrow… the VERY INTERESTING topics to hopefully develop will be:
1) Will Les be a “normal” and “understanding” person about Tiffany, or will be be a “jerk” and say something unkind about Tiffany’s current status?
2) If Les is being a “jerk”, then I suspect the week’s worth of story line will focus on weight and society’s focus on weight and exterior appearances of folks.
3) If Les is more “normal” and “understanding” in his response to Tiffany, then I see the story immediately progressing into “Souffle Lingerie” territory.
4) I am hoping the arc is not all about Tiffany and her physicality this week.
5) With Les’ “lack of recognition” today, I am suspicious that the week will be primarily about Tiffany’s physicality.
Pipe finished, coffee consumed…. back to work for me.
Peeking in during my months long self-exile, I see that the fat shaming continues. And while I am aware of the sub plot that, perhaps, Ann Eifel is about to pay her dues, still, whenever I see Les, I’m reminded that, with this character, less is more!
But I did want to give a shout out to PC – so-called political correctness. A horrible name, I concede, but something I have come to believe is a real necessity these days. To me, PC is nothing more than simple politeness, courtesy, and consideration for others. To me, PC is nothing more than making an effort to not be rude.
Tiffany looks perfectly fine the way she is dressed. People wear more clothing in the winter. She is only there to get on the list for the next party. I’m sure Les would allow that, unless Ann gave him a list of people who were never invited. I still wonder why Pru was not allowed at the party.
Whoops! Maybe Les better employ the tactic of imitating Frank’s exhaustive list of qualifiers….perhaps by then, Tiffany will forget why she was supposed to be offended….
Yes, she looks fine, but it’s a “big change” for Tiffany to be seen in this wardrobe. Only because that’s what she always ‘put out there’ for people to see. She was knoiwn to be very image conscious. But only a few people (a schol counselor, Luann, Gunther, Dez and Bernice….maybe the dorm staff) have seen Tiffany, since her self-imposed exile. They’re used to her purposely trying to exude the image that Les expected, in the first panel. But Tiffany has been going through some changes (literally, and figuratively). Who knows, if Tiffany will make mental and emotional adjustments during her recovery, to de-emphasise her former attire’s value (in her eyes) and alter her wardrobe, in the future? Or maybe even if in her healing, she’ll return to ‘vapid city’?
Middle panel: Tiff looks like Eliza Dolittle from My Fair Lady, ready to sell flowers at night, on the streets of old London back in the Victorian Era. Judging from Leslie, she could also be “The Shadow”……who knows what evil lurks in the minds of men?
Wonder where Tiff is going with this? The only reason Ann would keep Tiff out is because she KNOWS that her “boyfriend” is Tiff’s father and/or she has a customer list from the real Soufle stores and would exclude those who could recognize the fakes.
Keep in mind that Tiffany is now driven to ‘get her dad back – get her life back – and get rid of Ann Eiffel’!
Powerful motivators, all those are. True, they may be – at first – still rooted in Tiff’s impulses being self-obsorbed/self-conscious/image-conscious (at least for now), but this is still a VERY brave move she’s making here! Somehow, I’m thinking of the movie, What’s Eating Gilbert Grape.
And say what you want about the outfit, her weight, whatever – Tiffany is still showing some real courage just getting out in public again (Star Trek marathons in another’s dorm room can be a good first step, but not like truly going outside). [And, perhaps the black outfit is still underneath the jacket].
Obviously the seduction technique isn’t going to work. Les is far too superficial to see beneath the surface. Also the fact that Tiffany doesn’t know that Les is Ann’s son will hamper her attempts to recruit him to her cause. But maybe Ox can play a role. he likes Tiffany no matter what and he would be the perfect guy to act as a security guard for Ann’s parties.
I dunno…from Les’s perspective (not knowing that Gunther encouraged Tiff to throw his phone number away) Tiff didn’t return his calls when she was slender and outgoing. Now she’s back and trying to use him when she has kind of let herself go – she looks like she hasn’t put much thought into her appearance (comparatively), and unless he’s into star trek, I doubt depression and lying around the dorm has made her a sparkling conversationalist. Fat shaming or no, I couldn’t really blame him for taking a pass until she’s in better shape physically and emotionally. At the very least he may realize the benefit of focusing on making money, getting a better job, and getting out of the town rather then spending cash on the Tiff’s and Pru’s of the town. Unless he want’s to spend the rest of his life waiting tables at The Fuse.
@KENHENSE: I doubt that Les would try the cherry stem trick on today’s version of Tiffany. We can only wait and see, but given Les’s past behavior, I don’t expect him to react to Tiffany they way he did before. Still think he’s a shallow guy and will only react to what she currently looks like. Which is not his ‘ideal’, so, hope I’m wrong, but I expect him to be very uninterested in whatever she tries to convince him to do…
I’m guessing that Tiffany just wants to get her name on the list for the next lingerie party. Les might make some rude comment but hopefully Tiffany is strong enough to brush it off or throw one back.
