Coming Soon đ At the beginning of April, youâll be
introduced to a brand-new GoComics! See more information here. Subscribers, check your
email for more details.
Arloâs eyes say it all. Reminds me of another comic where the old guy says âYou remember 30 years ago when we moved here and there was that crazy old guy living across the street? Well now Iâm told I am the old guy.â
Reminds me of the time I was standing on the monorail at Disney World and a seated passenger asked me âSir, would you like my seat?â. One of lifeâs defining momentsâŠ
I started getting the âold treatmentâ a few years ago, and I hated it. Then I asked myself why. Was I mad that someone was being caring and considerate? (No, that would be foolish). Was I mad that I was getting older? (Definitely) Or was I attributing to others the same sense of superiority I felt years ago when I addressed older people in a similar way? (Probably). Realizing the last two items helped me see the kindness behind peopleâs actions and appreciate them.
If we have enough âglory daysâ old age is just when we are resting for a wee bit. Thereâs a call for war stories and we donât have to go to war to have them. I recognize them in the making when I stand still for a moment and wonder what to do now.
I was raised to be respectful and defer to my elders. Now I am âthe elder.â With no one to be respectful to, I guess I can start becoming âcrotchetyâ now?
I worked in an office where the A/C went down during one heat wave. I asked the accounting department if they were OK because the TV said to check on elderly neighbors. They all threw stuff at me (while they were laughing, of course).
I went into a pizza place in NYC a few years ago and the counter guy said, âWhatâll it be Pops?ââŠ.Pops!? I left the restaurant feeling somewhat older than when I walked in.
My dad says he never felt old until all 4 of his kids were collecting Social Security. Heâs now 95 and happy that he is still on the warm side of the rock.
It was when of my work colleagues told me how they snuck into see âPurple Rainâ as 12 year olds. Uhhh, I was in my late twenties when that was released.
I believe all the comments have covered just about everything. Except this: Be glad if someone cares enough to worry about you and checks to make sure. We all could use an Ashlee next door.
Younger people have unrealistic views of older folks. When he was in his 20âs Paul Simon wrote âOld Friendsâ, which has lines like âpreserve your memories, theyâre all thatâs left youâ and âhow terribly strange to be 70â. Today heâs 76 and doing world tours. Wonder what he thinks of that song now.
Yeah.. just took my mom and dropped her off as sheâs going on a lovely boat ride and lobster bake with the senior center. They told me they had an extra ticket and I could come along⊠:(
Elderly is relative. My Great grandmother was in a nursing home in her 80âs. She would help out by pushing the âold peopleâ in their wheel chairs. They were in their 60âs and 70âs.
There was a strip in the summer of 2016 that insinuated Janis likes to sunbathe naked in her backyard. Something doesnât jive here, unless they moved and I missed it.

I became even more aware of how others perceive me several years ago when waitresses began calling me âSweetie,â âHoney,â and âDear.â
Gad, I hate that.
