So in a few short minutes not only as RA Bernice managed to derail Tiffany’s profession but she has managed to convince her to quit school. What was that profession she was planning to do after she got her degree again?
Look out, Bernie – I bet that one could tie you into a knot.
.
I did mention the other day that Tiff should quit, move in with Daddy Dearest, and tell him that it was Annie’s idea for her to quit college as it was driving him to the poorhouse. As Lulu 1212 says, let the hilarity ensue…
Nice going, Ms. “Stick-to-the-rules” R.A. Bern wasn’t so “;aw and order” when she let Piro sleep in her room that night. You know if Bernice were a REAL “friend,” she’d let Tiff crash with her the rest of the semester, in HER dorm room.
Tiffany on the other hand, is forgetting one very important thing: She now has friends that are willing to HELP her, “if” she let’s them. BUT, she alienated two of those friends (ONE in particular) last Fall with that two dates in one night, MESS.
If Tiff is lucky, she’ll move back home, tell her dad what happened, and WHO is responsible and make Ann’s life a living H3LL. Or she’ll move in with maybe Al and Irma. If she’s REALLY lucky, she’ll rethink this whole dropping out of school thing.
Worse case scenario, she moves into the Gulag. With Gunther and Les sharing one bedroom and while she takes the other.
And in THAT case, it’ll be Pandemonium, NOT Hilarity ensuing……..,
Gee, Tiff, could the fact that you run off whining the instant anything actually requires real work or effort have ANYTHING to do with always failing??? Nah….
Leave Bernice alone, girl. Pick your own size. And what part of shut-down did you not understand when you were waiting for 35 minutes? Heck, why are you even in college if you are too dumb to understand the situation?
And did Tiffany think of where she is going to live? Without a job, she may be forced to live with Daddy and Evil Anne. Now THAT would be an interesting story line. Maybe she can expose Anne for what she really is and actually WIN in Daddy’s eyes and restore her self-esteem.
This is really pretty disturbing in Tiffany’s arc, nothing affirming, totally surrendering to everything that is happening to her, coming to believe that she is a failure, dropping out of college, I hope that her outcome is not a bleak as it appears it is being drawn. However I have to say that all of this is not Bernice’s fault. She is merely enforcing the rules, I mean some of the same people who were so quick to say that Tiffany is violating law, rules, cosmology licenses, are now blaming Bernice for telling Tiffany that she cannot do a nail business in her dorm room, which is it? Bernice is a proximate plot device only, it was obvious this was going to happen. The real thing is the story, and what will happen with Tiffany. Hilarity is not and might not ensue here, and that is the real arc.
Good for Tiff, college is not for everybody. She seems to have found something she enjoys and that also can support her financially. Adulthood begins when you start to make your own decisions and you do not just simply follow the path others say you should for the sake of ease.
Tiffany needed a therapist months ago, Bernie didn’t help in that department. Tiffany needs to move forward and get her cosmetology license so she can be happy
Hopefully university administration will get wind of this. The students are willing to pay for school themed manicures = great showing of school spirit. Hence, the school could let Tiff set up a little stand, in a common agreed-upon area, on game weekends. Just painting nails…no cutting or cuticle trimming, etc. With her makeup skills, she could easily expand this to face painting the school mascot or colors, etc. No licensure required. Win-Win. Go Tiff!
As I feared here and there in the past, Tiff’s trials have crushed her spirit. If this is GnK’s idea of “moving her personality forward” it’s pretty depressing. And Tiff hasn’t always been a failure. She got her friend’s money back after the lingerie ripoff.
Tiff’s miseries first appeared with the advent of the Tom and Ann hookup. When has Greg started introducing deeply flawed characters without much redeeming comedic value? Currently we seem to have Jonah, Ann Eifel and now Tom Farrell. I’d say Dirk, but even he was redeemed in the end. Mordy would say Les, but he has provided some value as mostly an irritant for Gunther to play off on. Also, except for the Sunday strips, Bernice has been cast as mostly a downer since she went off to a different school than Luann.
GnK have created some truly dark situations lately.
Bit by bit Greg has stripped away everything that made Tiffany the sexy goddess that she was. Finally, he had her gain weight to further break her spirit. He has spent a lot of time tearing her down, so now he owes her big time.
That butchy looking woman looks ready to turn Borenice into a quickie mop. This time Tiff is right, so Borenice is on her own. Hope Tiff thinks about finding a place to work from. She has found her true calling.
What Tiffany needs right now would be for her arch enemy, Luann, to work he empathy magic that she seems to display so easily. Or to encounter a nurturing parent figure like Irma to restore her positive self image.
But what will most likely happen is a cartoonist’s fix of Tiff suddenly reconnecting with her old, brash self and moving on to some GnK idea of success.
I hate that she’s leaving on such a depressing note and I really hate that she sees herself as such a failure. I think Tiffany is great—she just has some self esteem issues and needs to grow up a little bit. I hope she does go somewhere she can get her cosmetology degree. She would be awesome at that. Good Luck Tiffany. I’m pulling for you!!!! Don’t give up.
Learned failure – if all you’ve done is fail, you’ve learned to fail. Picking yourself up and trying again, and failing again sounds inspiring, but it’s not a success.
I stand corrected…thought sure there would be the usual story-arc switch! Isn’t it amazing how Tiffany has evolved to become a sympathetic character, with some actual emotional depth, instead of just a vain, shallow bimbo? I actually care about her now!(Not literally…she’s fictional…but you know what I mean.)
If I were Tiffany, I’d jack that “monitored” credit card up so high with charges, it SCREAMED. It would certainly get Ann’s attention. Maybe even Tom’s. And Tiffany should DEMAND a one on one talk with Her and her dad, ALONE this time. NO Ann.
And when the dust settles, Tiff might want to reconsider taking that dishwasher job at the Fuse. And maybe later, asking if they use another employee at “Its All About You,” nail salon, she frequents. She could learn the ropes and save some money. And after awhile, be able to open up her own business. (At the Fuse, Maybe?)
The only problem is where to stay. I’d stay at home, and go toe to toe with Ann at EVERY opportunity.
I follow Luann but generally don’t leave comments, but Tiffany just had a huge breakthrough. She just recognized that others aren’t failing her, but that she is failing herself. (In order to stop the pain, you first have to recognize that you are in pain.) Now is the time for her to take charge of her destiny and step out on her own. It won’t be easy, but taking that first step is the hardest part and she just did that.
I understand Tiff’s frustration. EVERY career center/councilor I’ve gone to (& I’ve gone to quite a few) has told me to discover what I enjoy & find my strengths. That’s great for hobbies, & I know what I enjoy, but when I asked about money they blew me off. I understand Bernice is just doing her law enforcing duties, but Tiff is dead on to recognize that if she is trying (& objectively succeeding – her dads the parental failure – shes been reaching out, he hasn’t, she didn’t fail with Ann, she got back her friends cash, she did what was outlined as her menial job & asked for a raise at Kids First despite Kids First not valuing her work, and she HAS modeled and gotten photos which is one step above the Luanns & Bernices of the world) and not being rewarded, then perhaps the problem is systematic rather than her, and get out of that system. I’m sure Mooney U. can co opt Tiff’s fanicure idea to funnel some money into the university at the next game, which should make Bernice consider the academic system she’s perpetuating. IMHO, this could have been avoided if Tiff had simply given Mooney U a taste of the profits. Which is a very, very good reason to reconsider college.
Actually: It’s the first sign that Tiffany is taking responsibility for her own life and to make something of it outside of her childhood cocoon. Too bad Luann can’t seem to do the same thing. The character with her name on the strip never ever grows.
I do think this arc is more about Bernice’s listening skills as she is utterly confused as to why Tiff would leave college/a system that isn’t working for her. Bern should have seen this a long time ago.
I think several of Tiff’s nail customers will come to her defense and tell her how talented she is. Perhaps even Bernice will boost her up a little. Tiffany does have some talents that will get her through life. She just needs to believe in herself and get a little support from friends and family.
We have seen some cute girls, lately, but who do we get for a encore visit? Thunder Chest. What a bummer. Look out, Bernice, she might develop a real big, drooling case of the hots for you.
Tiffany has not failed at being honest with herself; that’s a start. Who will listen and advise now? Phelps, Gunther or Bernice. Bern needs to step back in.
It seems as though Tiffany has put on weight in the last couple of years. Another way in which the strain of looking perfect is telling on her? Compare recent cartoons with Two years ago. https://www.gocomics.com/luann/2017/03/08.
I also think she could solve many of her problems with a career online promoting beauty products and demonstating her many fashion skills via You tube, facebook, twitter etc.
Bernice did provide the straw that broke the proverbial camel’s back, so to speak. She didn’t need to be so rigid in her obsession with rules in this case.
Enter Crystal, to show Tiffany that it’s possible for a rich girl to leave her family behind and forge a new life with a lot less money but a lot more happiness. Cosmetology will be good for her, too—she has shown to Ox that she knows how to pamper as much as she knows how to be pampered. It would be the ideal way for Tiff to live the Golden Rule.
So, it’s finally come to this, has it? Makes me wonder how Tom Farrell will react to the news… But, he’ll most likely cry to Ann and let her do the thinking for him, oblivious to the fact that it’s ANN’S fault. She has been bullying Tiffany, and Tom (being a coward) has been letting her do it. Tiffany needs him, but he just can’t be bothered to be the father he’s supposed to be. Going home is not an option for Tiffany; not while Ann Evil reigns supreme.
Tiffany’s best bet is Crystal. She can lend a sympathetic ear and help Tiffany out of the depression she’s in. Tiffany has finally found her true calling in cosmetology, but she needs help to make it a reality. And this is where Al and Irma can come in. If Tiffany tells them about Ann’s scheming, Al can perhaps sponsor her beauty school training, and even invest in her new business.
It’s too bad about Tom Farrell. Perhaps he’ll think about how he’s been neglecting his daughter when another of Ann’s schemes puts him in jail.
Tired of failing? Welcome to the real world. What if Edison had that attitude? We’d still be in the dark. Quitting is not an option. We’re not turning back. Good words to live by.
