Good morning, my friends the Orb.

And we see how diligently Elvis fulfills his duty of making sure the BCN viewers get full reports on the best napping spots.

A Himalayan rock salt lamp! I’ve got one glowing beside me right now.

My daughter got me one for my birthday in October, when we were visiting her in Florida for our 40th anniversary. It was my husband’s first visit to Florida, and the first time I had been there since I was very young. But we were bummed to find we had forgotten it in the bustle of packing up. I was so happy when she remembered to bring it up to Michigan with her last month. And now it’s adding its cozy glow to the living room. We could have just gotten another one, I suppose. But this one came across the country to remind us of our anniversary trip.

Not exactly a thrilling story, to be sure. But, it’s why I’m tickled to see one here, just a month after we finally got ours.

I’m getting a smile, remembering Winnie the Pooh and the Honey Tree.

Honestly. the Man is close to perfection but he should have taken care of The Button by now. He lives with three cats and two children, after all.

Gosh, no wonder he gave all those places such bad reviews. Who could like places where you get shouted at just for trying to take a nap!

Just wanted to leave a quick update. I saw the doctor again Thursday. The pulled muscles have healed well (after nearly a month) but he thinks I also did something to my hamstring. He still wants an ultrasound of the area and to send me to an orthopedist, but worker’s comp still hasn’t approved it. (He’s been trying since I got hurt.) Now he’s trying to add physical therapy, but I doubt that will be approved, either.I’m still on light duty, which I hate but he’s “gradually increasing the load.” Now I can lift up to 10 pounds and walk up to 30 minutes, but I’m still not allowed to bend, stoop, or do any work over my head. My supervisor’s supervisor got involved week before last, so I’ve been on true light duty for a couple of weeks. I go back in two weeks to see if he will back off a bit more on the restrictions. Hopefully, he’ll just take me off light duty completely by then.

I have a dresser with a small, curved open space at the bottom similar to the end table (or is it a bedside night stand?) in panel one. It always amazed me how quickly a frightened cat could melt down flat and ooze under the spot to get away from something that had startled him/her. It was equally puzzling how once the danger had passed, it became more problematic for the same cat to ooze back out.

Poor Elvis.

Today is my son’s birthday. He is 15 and is almost as tall as me. We only get him home about 12 weeks out of the year, the rest of the time he is at the Ballet Conservatory learning his future profession and going to school where he has excellent grades. He has significant talent according the Ballet Master at the Conservatory. He is also on a wonderful, merit scholarship that helps us a great deal, otherwise we could never afford sending him away. One day in the future, I hope to be posting a link to the Ballet company he lands at.

He was not always an easy child when he was young…too much energy, mild sensory issues, and the only things he liked to eat was chicken and fresh fruit. But he always was a sweet child, happy, and when he discovered dance, in particular classic Ballet, he took to it like a fish to water. I could not be more proud of my son.

That’s great to hear! I hope your son has the happiest of birthdays and a great career!

Snakes! It had to be snakes!

Yesterday I was at the Minnesota State Fair and I saw something wonderful at the Creative Arts Building. Someone made a felt sculpture of Puck, sitting on his haunches and holding a tiny microphone! It didn’t win a ribbon, though. Maybe the judges didn’t get the reference.

In panel 1 – Elvis is going to hate it if he knocks over that glass of water on his tail.

I want to thank Ms Dunn for the strip regarding whisker fatigue. I have a 7 year old cat who has always (since we adopted her when she was a year and change) scooped her food out from the bowl onto the floor to eat. We have been thinking all these years, that it was just a quirk of hers.

After reading your strip, you educated me and I have since bought her a whisker-friendly feeding dish that is “out for delivery” today. I can’t wait for her to finally be able to eat from a dish instead of the floor. I feel so bad that I didn’t know about this sooner. She’s lived her whole life having to modify her eating habits because her humans were too ignorant to see that she needed a different kind of dish. :(

I can’t thank you enough for your PSA strip. Please do more of those! I’ve been a cat owner my entire life (I’m in my early 40’s) and I still have much to learn.

Good morning to everyone. Thank you, Georgia for showing the sites Elvis panned as napping spots.

On the home front, I am still not feeling well; I picked up more medication this morning, with the pharmacist’s assistance. Paul, bless his lovable soul, got the same thing, went to bed, slept for 20 hours, and woke up completely recovered.

A bad day for Elvis…

I’m thinking of naming my next cat Chester, after my dad. That way yelling at it will be cathartic

Dear Orb, I come seeking signs of encouragement. I am so tired, and feel so very alone.

As some of you may recall, my husband battles bipolar with severe psychosis. He refuses treatment, refuses medication, and I do not know how to help or what to do. He cannot hold down a job. He only helps at home when I am there to work along side him. On his own, he is much like an indolent teenager, which I know is a result of his mental illness and is an unfair portrait. But I no longer have a partner. I have a teenage child. And I am so very tired.

I find myself responsible for all our bills, and because our house in Texas still has not sold, I am responsible for insurance and bills on that house as well as on the new one. I tell myself that when the house in Texas sells that it will be bring some relief – and it will – but that relief will be temporary at best. I do not know how to handle everything on my own. I am just so tired.

Tired of having to be a parent to my husband. Tired of having to put on a smile and cheerful face for my mom, for my coworkers when I feel as though I am drowning. I am tired of being the responsible one. Tired of working all the time. Tired of waking from sleep just as exhausted as when I laid down. Tired of people expecting me to handle it all with my normal aplomb because that is what I’ve done all of my life.

Least you fear, I am not suicidal. I have the means were that my intent, but I am not that selfish, and I could not abandon those I love. I just feel like a shell of a person, going through the motions. I feel helpless, alone, and so tired.

I guess I just need to know that I’m not alone. That I provide some value, however small, to this world. That I am strong enough to find a way through. That is it OK to be tired, and it is OK to rest when needed. That I do not need to be perfect, and that even flawed and broken, I have value. That I am worth loving. These are the things I forget, you see. Thank you for your kindness.

its not easy holding down the fort, and sounds like your doing an amazing job. but you need help, maybe social services in your area? there is a web site that provides support/info on almost any health issue. I used it when I had cancer, its there for patients, caregivers, spouses. its: www.inspire.com enter bipolar and you will find numerous topics to choose from. there should be something there that can give you ideas, mental support or just a space to release your frustrations. hang in there you are not alone and the orb cares about you.

Why are they always picking on Elvis? He’s innocent!

Ah, a view of Elvis rating sunspots. The under the desk view is the best. The sheer terror on Elvis’s face accompanied by either the woman’s or the man’s concerned “Elvis?” is classic. It’s like their saying “Elvis, what’s wrong?”, “Elvis, is that you?”, “Elvis, where are you?” “Elvis, are you ok? Are you hurt?”, “Elvis, please say your not dead?” “Elvis, are you being elctrocuted?”. So many possiblities being said, all exhibiting concern and worry for Elvis. And we don’t see the next moment in which either Elvis manages to free himself from the wires or the woman or man came to Elvis’s rescue.

Being that it’s late in the day, I’ll repost this tomorrow, but I am so happy to be able to share this that I can’t wait …
