I love the Raccoons!! Junk and Gutter—trashy names, but they suit! (((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((huge engulfing bear hugs for all, miss you guys!))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))
I wonder – are these different trash cans, or does the presence of trash in these bins mean that there are new People in the house from which Goldie’s People have gone missing? Invader People, even?
A few years ago, in Toronto, the Animal Services workers were very busy and took over twelve hours to pick up a dead raccoon on a downtown sidewalk. People began building a memorial shrine to it, with cards, candles, flowers, etc. A city councilor kept urging Animal Services to hurry up, but people were having a lot of fun with it. https://www.boredpanda.com/dead-raccoon-memorial-shrine-mourning-deadraccoonto-toronto/?utm_source=google&utm_medium=organic&utm_campaign=organic
There are raccoons all around here, but I mostly see them post mortem on the roads. One morning a while back, I looked out my bathroom window to see a white cat and a gray cat getting ready to face off, with much hissing and growling. The gray cat was facing away from me but had a beautiful black-ringed tail. “Gee, that cat’s tail looks just like a…uh-oh!” So I hissed at them to interrupt their discussion. Both turned to look at me and sure enough, the gray “cat” was a cute little raccoon. After a long stare and a hand clap, Kitty and Rocky sped off in opposite directions. Fight avoided. First and only raccoon sighting in my yard in the 28 years I’ve lived here.
On a trip down the county roads of NE Iowa this morning we passed two dead raccoons, one was providing brunch for two eagles and the second was being enjoyed by one eagle. On the way home the one eagle treat was being cleaned up by a turkey vulture and we almost missed seeing the other as the two eagles had left very little. We wondered if the two eagles together were a mated pair or possibly siblings as they were sharing the raccoon quite amicably. Beautiful sunny early Fall day for wildlife viewing.
I see Elvis has been rescued from the drawer, and finally Lupin is believed and making the most of it ;) And on a much sadder note, I lost my good boy of 13 years Sunday night. He was a corgi dog not a cat (his two kitty sisters are fine) He was old and had a lot of health concerns but seemed fine that morning so his death was a shock to me and has hit me very hard. Losing a pet, especially one you were very close to and had for so many years is always hard.

For some reason these guys make me think of any one of a dozen post-apocalyptic SF stories.

Sounds like Goldie may not get the warmest welcome here.

Those sieves with cutlery and silverware make awesome weapons, but my money is on Natasha and her cactus jacket.

Steampunk or Mad Max sans vehicles?

If raccoons had opposable thumbs, they would have taken over the world by now!

Why is he holding the magnifying glass up to his eye patch? Or is that a matter of angle and perspective?

I’m getting a Mad Max feel.

Goldie should be very careful when talking to such disreputable characters.

One man’s trash is a raccoon’s treasure.

Frankly it’s the female raccoon – with her chain bandoleers – I’m worried about.

Junk & Gutter? I guess it is not exactly Rogers & Hammerstein, Laurel & Hardy or Abbott & Costello…
shwhite369 about 5 years ago
That may be, but Goldie has shown herself to be quite the self-sufficient kitty.

I was trying to work in a reference to Sir Elton’s “The Bitch is Back.” Maybe someone will have better luck.

Either we have been dropped into the midst of “Trash Wars” or “My IX Lives” has taken a decidedly raccoon-y turn.

Here is Georgia’s October drawing from yesterday:

Apparently it is a future Our IX Lives character based on Georgia’s comment.
