I wonder if we have already had the moment where Laura tells the current staff of the Fuse that she is taking Pru’s old job, or is she is marching off to the Fuse to make that announcement and play her, “Because I am the owner” card.

And does Luann KNOW why her mom is working now? My guess is she is clueless. I think she thinks her mom simply wants to keep busy and decided to work outside the home I hope Frank might say, “It’s your fault, you know, that my wife is not feeding me or doing my laundry. She’s gone working to pay for YOUR tuition.”

Fantastic, congratulations Nancy. I think she is doing this is much for herself, as for any help on Luann’s tuition. Community College tuition is quite reasonable, one of the selling points of community college. No I think it makes all kinds of sense, sort of women’s liberation Luannverse style. I think what is going to be most important, with some silliness of course, is the effect that a sensible, wise, loving, but very strong Nancy will be on the lost souls who work there, specifically, Tiffany and Leslie.

It amuses me that everyone gets bunged up and argues over a comic strip.Nancy, probably doesn’t HAVE to work. Why would she just now HAVE to. I guess they make decent money off of the Fuse or whatever it’s called. She hasn’t worked in 20 years, now she HAS to? I don’t buy it.And why would any of this be Luann’s fault? It’s a comic strip, relax and see it for what it is. MAKE BELIEVE.

I’m impressed by the way Luann is stepping up! She seems willing to try and wants her mom to have a good experience. Frank, on the other hand is being drawn kicking and screaming into the new situation. However, if he will embrace it and learn a few basic domestic skills that everyone, male and female, needs to know he will feel better about himself and more positive about this change. I think he will eventually come around. When someone has been spoiled and pampered all these years as he has a big change like this can feel intimidating and uneasy.

The writers don’t seem to have thought until now about how owning a restaurant might affect a family’s domestic life. I imagine that it would actually be very difficult for the whole family to have just continued its daily routines undisturbed. Frank might have even had to learn a little about food preparation.

Of Course she should leave them a list of what to do! Nancy has been doing everything for over 20 years. Frank and Luann will not know what to make for dinner unless she tells them. I doubt if they will clean up after dinner. They would never think to look for wet clothes in the washer that need to go in the dryer. If Frank has been working all these years he should not have to do chores if Nancy has been at home. She has had plenty of time to do all the household chores since Brad and Luann have been in school.

I think Luann is 19 going on 20. I suspect most people that age in middle class families are not supporting themselves yet. But it’s time to start thinking about it. Luann moving on her own will yield some great arcs – where once again she is the star. Lately it’s been Tiffany or Gunther.

In light of the unexpected plague, should this ship make a mid-course correction? Aircraft carrier’s captain did, and the Navy kicked him off his ship, and maybe out of the Navy. Millions have lost their jobs and Nancy goes happily along to her new job. Will the shadow of the real world darken Greg’s story line, or should he just ignore it and stay the course?

Although I’m intrigued by Nancy’s return to work. I’m also puzzled by it! Where’s the payoff for the strip with a working Nancy!?!? Inept family member(s) left to their own devices in a tired old trope. Similarly, a bumbling inept new employee out of their element. (Recall Tiffany took to waitressing quickly, tho’.) Although both of these tropes are familiar to audiences and relatively easy to write for they seem to be a small payoff for such a big character move in a main character.

GnK have been disrupting the status quo lately. Gunther has a home town girlfriend. Leslie has displayed a softer, more vulnerable side with his pet, Punk, and seems less disruptive in the Gulag and at The Fuse. Tiffany has gone from poor little rich girl with no cares to poor little working stiff with woes aplenty. Now Nancy abandons home and hearth. Yikes!

    Something’s gotta be up!.

At The Fuse. Nancy on the job story lines?? Disruption among the employees? TJ conflicts over power issues? Nancy restructures the whole Fuse into new venue? Nancy glams up; dissention at home? Nancy acquires an admirer and is mildly flirty; also dissention at home and disruption on the job? Nancy becomes the uber-executive and makes the Fuse into a booming business by hiring the Hall-A band, etc.?

    Where goest thou GnK???

After reading today’s Luann Againn and thinking back over Gunther’s treatment over the decades, it is more than a little surprising to me that Gunther achieved young adulthood and is still emotionally functional. He was well into his senior year in High School before he was granted a true girlfriend; Rosa. And she had to be manufactured in Peru. He is into his Sophomore or Junior year before he gets a tumble from a local Pittsville girl. Some author’s say that their characters evolve a life of their own. If so, then*GnK* owe the character big time.
