Non Sequitur by Wiley Miller for April 23, 2020

Good judgment comes from wisdom.Wisdom comes from experience.Experience comes, mostly, from bad judgment.

The trick is to realize that “do your best” does not require “be perfect”. In fact, I’ve become inured to not even making it all the way to my own “best” … at least not every time. The even bigger trick is realizing that I’m okay with people who are doing “best” as well as I do.

Mistakes are often just the path to knowledge and wisdom.

It’s YES and NO because life has no straight-line answers.

The doors we chose to open depend on which doors we previously have passed through.

Sometimes, with three little maniacs running around and a wife whose major contribution is screeching I have to be satisfied with being adequate. I mostly apply that to cleaning the house, not unsanitary is just fine.

Everything I need or want nowadays is based on knowing what I don`t need or want.

The better question is, has anybody ever taken mostly good paths?

Life is what happens to you as you screw up daily over a long period of time. Hopefully you don’t get killed or end up in prison.

Hey hey hey!

Don’t glide by 34. 34 is what you’ll look back on when you’re 54 and say, “Once, I had a nice ass.”

Experience is knowing that a tomato is a fruit; wisdom is not putting it into your fruit salad.

I’m glad this series is actually being rerun, it was one of my favorites. It’s nice to revisit it.

Sorry, no, it doesn’t get easier. The questions just get different.

Every decision has consequences. Even indecision has consequences. I think even consequences have consequences. Never ending sequences of consequences. I’m going back to bed.

Now that I’m old enough to know the answers, they’ve changed the questions.

One tip: If someone is standing by one of the doors, leering and saying “believe me”, don’t go in.

Esp. if there’s an orange animal of indeterminate nature nesting on it’s head.

Death to Tyrants

Remember being a kid and thinking how adults always knew just what to do?

a wise father once told me that, " there are no good choices nor bad choices; only the choices you make and the consequences with which you must live."

Looks like a cross between Warehouse 13 and The Ministry of Time.

Which would be better, future you telling present you which way to go, or present you telling past you which mistakes were going to be worth making?

“Knowledge speaks, wisdom listens.” – attributed to Jimi Hendrix. I may not have learned much in my life, but I know I never learned anything while I was talking.

For those of you teenagers who swear that you’ll never be like your parents … ¡Be Aware! … There’s going to be a time when at 35, you say to yourself: “Oh my god, I’ve become my old man!” … Or around 40, you realize: “I’m acting just like my mother!”

At which point, we’ll smile, welcome you to the club, and ask you: “What took you so long?”

Not easier just more expensive

This plot line seems similiar to me

Spoiler Alert: Most mistakes can be backed away from or fixed. The world is also constantly making us change paths. The last figure I saw said that the average worker must change careers three times in his life. If we stay alive and legal, all we have to do is keep moving forward with a modicum of brain, and we should be okay.

This sounds like my daughter who, at about age 8, announced that she NEVER wanted to grow up.

I’m an old man now. I’ve discovered the secret to wisdom is learning from other peoples’ mistakes, so you don’t have to make them all yourself.

Your Life is always better at some Other Age.

Experience is an excellent, but extremely hard teacher. Good judgment comes from experience, and a lotta that comes from bad judgment.
