As Lupin is asking a question rather than making an outright accusation, it is possible that Goldie has her own hat, which closely resembles Lupin’s…. Perhaps Lupin will find his own hat in the coming days?

I notice that Goldie doesn’t think Lupin needs a connection to the crime. He’s included in the suspect list just for being Lupin.

Slightly OT: I’ve always felt slightly sheepish around my professor son for my obsession with BCN. I had to hold myself back to not give his partner the first of Georgia’s books. But finally, when my granddaughter turned six in May, I gave her Lupin Leaps In. She not only is able to read it, and knows it by heart, but she as well picked up that Lupin is deaf, when her parents did not! And she’s saving up her allowance to buy the first book. When I told her last night that there are two more books, she was over the moon.

Today is:

Purple Heart Day— Originally created by George Washington as an award for particularly meritorious military service, it is now given to military personnel wounded in battle, POWs, and those wounded by an act of terrorism. It can be given postumously, presented to the nearest living relative. While it is relatively common, and not considered among the highest awards, it should be. These men and women have shed their blood for us.

On a happier note, it is Raspberries and Cream Day. Give the carb police a raspberry and enjoy!

On a particularly frustrating note, it is Particularly Preposterous Packaging Day which means “hermetically and impenetrably sealed for your protection” or “fragile item wandering the vast empty spaces of an oversized box.” A certain mail order company that shall remain nameless (Don’t we wish!) has something called “frustration free packaging”— one of their delivery people hurls the unpackaged item it in the general direction of your domicile.

It is National Sea Serpent Day. I didn’t know we had a National Sea Serpent, although I’m sure the Lake Champlain Monster would be pleased by the honor. This is also Beach Party Day. Don’t feed the sea serpents (they’re on a reduced fat diet.)

After all that, I want a beer. Good thing it is International Beer Day. Make mine cellar temperature, and before you ask, I’m not an Englishman. I’m a mad dog who goes out in the noonday sun … But you knew that.

Great, first the tape recorder now his hat. Personally the hat is the bad thing (it was good for Lupin that Goldie took the tape recorder, actually forced him to take his own notes rather than get Puck to transcribe for him (or wait for Bea to be able to visit from the bookstore and do so)). Goldie’s gonna need to get her own fedora.
