    Maybe because I’m a painfully awful singer who likes to sing, this picture really speaks to me. I see a middle age “woman” singing the blues. Once falsely flattered for her singing by young stallions pursuing her favor. Now , no longer young and beautiful, she must settle for singing to the waterfall.

    Her problem’s unfortunate source/ was her Mom’s choice to mate with a horse/ now, she sings in despair/ “Am I maid ? Or mere mare ?”/ and there isn’t an answer, of course.
