I’m from an industrial background. Masks are to protect the worker from inhaling stuff. With covid masks are to prevent a person from projecting particles into the air around them and infecting other people. It’s much more to protect the people around you than it is to protect you. It protects you as well but not as much. Don’t be selfish, wear a mask
Someone representing a political candidate called me the other day… asking “What were current concerns”. Much like today’s strip… my concerns pertain to that poor soul who is standing there with a handful of flowers… wearing a mask… wondering how to build back their life… when the world is locked down… and their loved one is in one of those graves.
Humanity has lost their ability to evolve. Most focus on the numbers of people gone… or what a person filling out papers/form is going to do. The living still need to figure out how to – live!
Whenever I see someone claiming that facemasks are worthless, I think “Fine. Tell the doctor that the next time you require surgery so he won’t waste everyone’s time by putting one on”. I don’t know if that’s really relevant to the current discussion, but I think it’s at least a datapoint.
I seldom hear very much of anything. I read various things, and I do occasionally hear something on the glass tit, though I’m usually more focused on my laptop at the time. Maybe the problem with these folks is that their ears are bigger than their eyes??
The other day at my job I was asked to clean an electric cart for someone. She told me I didn’t have to and she’s not worried about COVID because she’s on hydroxychloroquine.
I paused mid cleaning and just said bluntly to her “That is worthless. It does nothing for covid, it’s not a preventative measure against it, all you’ve done is taken medicine that could’ve gone to someone that needed it and possibly damaged your heart in the process. Have a nice day”.
Cartoon strips are ALWAYS political. From Egypt hyerogliphics to Peanuts, passing from Mafalda. Just name ONE strip that is “pure humour” without some connection with reality…
I’ve noticed that I feel a bit uncomfortable saying I “heard” something when I know I read it on the internet. I have to admit, I have quoted a tweet a time or two. …bad me
So just shoot me, I thought it was funny!!! I am guessing Mr .Miller knew he was going to step on a few toes when he put this out. I admire and respect his sense of humor as well as his courage. Bottom line, if you don’t like this-THEN DON’T READ IT!
Huh. You think I’m going to listen to a guy who thinks we don’t know he’s a senior citizen? “To my favorite people in the world, the seniors,” he intoned. “I’m a senior. I know you don’t know that. Nobody knows that. Maybe you don’t have to tell them. But I’m a senior.” dt, South Lawn, White House, 10/9/20
People keep talking about personal freedom as if it is the one thing our country is about. Freedom is an individual thing — I remember a quote from Heinlein’s “The Moon is a Dark Mistress,” from the professor: “I will accept any rules that you feel necessary to your freedom. I am free, no matter what rules surround me. If I find them tolerable, I tolerate them; if I find them too obnoxious, I break them. I am free because I know that I alone am morally responsible for everything I do.” He is saying that a person is free to do what he wants as long as he is willing to take the consequences of his actions. If a person wants to speed, he/she is ‘free’ to do so but must be willing to pay the consequences, whether that is a wreck or a fine, higher insurance premiums, loss of driving privileges. In the US, you are free to do whatever you want - drop out of school, rob a bank, worship in whatever faith you choose, pollute a river, etc. A person has the freedom to do those things because freedom is an individual thing. Our country is about democracy and what democracy does is try to figure out how to let all people be free as long as they don’t harm others. Democracy is about ensuring that all people have the same opportunity of freedom. That’s hard. Democracy has to figure out at what point one person’s ‘freedom’ is unfair/harmful to others. That’s why there are laws and regulations. Some things are easy (not right to rob or kill). But other things are more complicated-is it OK for someone to pollute a river or the air? is it OK to hunt bison? At what point do you make laws/regulations to ensure the water is safe to use, the air is safe to breathe, or the bison don’t go extinct?
I heard it’s a Virus—and you just have to wait it out. And I heard the actual death toll from it alone is only around 10,000 or so. And I heard hospitals called anything they could a Covid death so they get increased reimbursements. But that doesn’t fit the political narrative.
PS – - "The ineffectiveness of masks has been confirmed by a meta-analysis that can be found at the official website of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC): In our systematic review, we identified 10 RCTs that reported estimates of the effectiveness of face masks in reducing laboratory-confirmed influenza virus infections in the community.… There is limited evidence for their effectiveness in preventing influenza virus transmission either when worn by the infected person for source control or when worn by uninfected persons to reduce exposure.
Our systematic review found no significant effect of face masks on transmission of laboratory-confirmed influenza."
Eldest Daughter claims the virus gets weaker as it is passed from person to person. The JHU map doesn’t seem to bear out that premise, but the poor kid has become a Republican, so there you are.
Every one of the tombstone comments were uttered by trump. All of his stupidly is on video. Of course the deniers will say the videos were photo shopped. Geez, the list of deniers keeps growing. Lets see, we have the flat earthers, antivaxers, Obama citizen deniers, moon landing deniers, global warming deniers, covid-19 deniers, and trump said something stupid deniers. I apologize to any denier group that I missed. It’s getting hard to remember all of them.
I like the fact Trump delegated to the Governors to manage the COVID in their respected states with the Federal Government providing material and financial support. But who gets blamed for all the deaths?Who gets blamed for shutting down the economy?
Trump would like to kill another 2 to 6 million Americans while trying out the discredited Fox news herd immunity program. Vote every murderously stupid republican out of office.
Trump was also the first to ban travel from China, for which he was called racist for doing so cause the Dems didn’t think it’d be a threat. Now they blame him for not banning travel SOONER.
Here’s a couple CDC websites of Provisional Data. Everyone can make their own decisions. I’m tired of trying to bring reasonableness into it all. Apparently, 33+ years as a Respiratory Therapist doesn’t have the value that it once had. While you’re at it, compare with the death rates and case rates of other acute and chronic diseases. www.cdc.gov/nchs/covid19 & www.cdc.gov/nchs/nvss/vsrr/covid_weekly/index.htm Have fun storming the castle boys (& girls)!
My initial comment is buried deep within the bowels if this thread, probably never to be seen by any reasonable person. Does anyone here realize how a viral disease spreads through a population. Spoiler Alert: this is where the herd immunity thing comes in.

Wearing masks is not just a health issue. It’s also an intelligence test. No surprise that conservatives are failing that test.
