We should be all in this together. It should be all of us. But that would require some education on the situation, cooperation, some looking out for your neighbor, maybe some slight sacrifice for the greater good, and a little patience with each other. But the GOP and its minions see education, cooperation, your neighbor, sacrifice, and patience as the duty of the “other guy; of them, not me”- that pretty much explains why we’re in this mess.
Except…EXCEPT…that we are NOT all in this together.
Some people can afford to quarantine not only effectively, but in comfort. Some people are forced, by their career, to be on the front lines and risk their own lives every day. Some people can afford the absolute best care available if they get sick. Most of us cannot. WE ARE NOT ALL IN THIS TOGETHER, and I’m quite sick of seeing commercials and facebook posts from celebrities in their opulent, immaculate homes saying that we are.
No, we decidedly are not! Politicians from both sides of the aisles pass draconian measures to “keep us safe” and then violate their own orders by NOT staying home and practicing social distancing. We are not in this together until the laws and restrictions apply to everyone equally.
Like everyone else, I just want this year, and this pandemic to be over. My oldest child is failing virtual school. My youngest cries because she can’t go to school. And my wife and I try to keep our sanity, which isn’t easy. I know that there are thousands of other people in the same situation. We just try to keep our heads down, and keep working.
Great sentiment, but highly inaccurate. Millions still believe the dictator wannabe with his “it’s a hoax, not as bad as flu, easy to survive with full free health care, you can beat it like him”.
No, we’re not all in this together. Lockdowns and quarantines only apply to us peasants. The rich and powerful can still do as they please with impunity.
This sure as hell isn’t a video game, but it is related to the World War 2 warning to “Beware of the ‘Military-Industrial’ complex” which was immediately ignored for it’s wonderful effect on our economy and Big Brother’s Capitalism thumb on citizens.
and another part continues to take our rights and freedoms away from us based on a lot of inacurate, incomplete, unproven and unsubstantiated ideas and opinions.
Pig did that just for sport. Or the sports game. Whichever. Also, anyone who gets this should know that Mario Kart Wii was the best game of its franchise :)

Last night, I lit* the first candle for Hanukkah. The last prayer we say over the candles on the first night is the Shehecheyanu:
Praised are You, Our God, Ruler of the universe, Who has given us life and sustained us and enabled us to reach this season.
Happy Hanukkah everyone! It’s the Reason for the Season.
.
*And by “lit” I mean turned on the first light bulb in the chanukkiah.
