I’ve heard that there are people who are contributing money to someone who claims to be incredibly RICH!

I mean bigly, hugely, RICH! As in rich enough to fund his own campaign(s).

And because he’s so rich, these people are giving him money, in some cases money that they cannot easily afford.

This is just a myth, right? I mean there are suckers, but there are not really people that stupid, are there?

The way I heard it, if there isn’t one born every minute, Uncle Sam will take up the slack.

And remember the W.C. movie title " Never Give A Sucker An Even Break".

And these days, the suckers are eager to part with their money.

That was 19th century thinking. Nowadays suckers are cultivated, nurtured, and groomed, usually through social media (QAnon, anyone?), keeping them carefully (even aggressively) shielded from such distractions as provable facts, simple logic, common sense, and the inevitable consequences of their subsequently easily influenced (but often illegal) actions … remember January 6.

Since I’m a fan, I need to point out that Barnum never said that, and it isn’t something he would say. He was also a very dedicated Universalist who considered entertainment to be a form of ministry.

Modern people don’t realize that some of the scams – like the Fiji Mermaid – were popular because people expected it to be a fake – that was part of the show, and they were being entertained. Like the Cardiff Giant – everybody knew it was fake, but they went to see it anyway. So Barnum made a Cardiff Giant of his own, and claimed it was the REAL fake.

I found out today the treasurer in a PN church just got arrested for stealing $150k from his church and spending it on adult things. Mistreating kids get you sent to another parish. Stealing gets you arrested. Tells you where their priorities lie.

This is not a matter of faith. It is a well established approximation. The actual time frame is constantly decreasing. At this time, I would approximate one every half second.

They could donate to trump’s Save America PAC and be a SAP.
