Not what I expected today but the story does follow the course of least confrontational moment to the next least confrontational moment, also as if GnK are afraid to have drama in this gag-a-day strip that wants to be a soap opera.

Now that Bernice is the hero of the hour will Luann get any credit for cleaning the house? Magic-8 ball says: “In your dreams.”

Bern is the daughter Nancy never had.

OK Luann. It appears some insecurities are beginning to manifest themselves. Or is it that you feel unappreciated generally?

Remember Luann, you hold the DNA advantage.

I wonder how Nancy will feel when she realizes everything has been wrongly prioritized and she has to spend hours fixing it.

Maybe we could also change the name of the comic to “Bernice”.

Luann: “Hello, daughter who did household chores here!”

Nancy: “Not now, Luann, let me admire your friend’s work here.”

Well this didn’t go ad expected. But i’m willing to accept when i’m wrong. Way to go, Luann. You did good to let Bernice have the credit she deserved.

And then the next minute Nancy realized that the Fuze was a money loser, just like the garage bistro in Arlo and Janis.

I’m glad to see Bernice’ s efforts appreciated; I don’t think she’s used to it. Look at her face, and no big pedantic explanations… just a regular person “yup”.

Somehow, I think that swabbing toilets will not upstage the Job Bernie did on “organizing” the books.

I knew Luann would do the right thing but i was not expecting it to be so easy.

Luann forget they forgot you.

Luann just got dealt a straight flush…..

And there you have it, oh those of so little faith.

Luann eventually told the truth.

Nancy is not the least bit “upset” that Bernice went thru her stuff, as SOME OF US SAID SHE WOULDN’T BE.

And Luann’s toilet cleaning efforts are being ignored. At least for now.

Now to enjoy a triumphant cup of COFFEE. ;-)

This is not a daughter issue, whose the best daughter. That is projection in the extreme, what some would like Bern to be or not, or expect Luann to be or not. Given the famous misdirection of this strip, and fact that the relationship of Lu and Bern is the closest and fundamental, surprises are in store, but daughter shaming is not it. I will get on a limb and say it will probably be funny, something that both can take something from (if they do) and Nancy will be the redoubtable Nancy. Remember what Nancy said to Toni just before the marriage—never put him in a possibility of hurt again—she is a bona fide Tiger mom; probably why Bern admires her so much.

Mom envy by Bernice? Bernice’s mother is very close to retirement while Luann’s mom is 49 years ago.

If Luann cleaned her room, Nancy Degroot would experience the sudden need to call the paramedics!

Scrubbing toilets and dusting doesn’t really take that much effort or time.

Well, many guys think Luann could have done this. Nancy has demonstrated awe for Bernice and her work because bookkeeping is a complicated process and system. Um, Nancy, yes, you are in awe of Bernice, but Luann is wanting your attention. You know, the daughter who never does chores? Look what she did while Bernice was cleaning up your mess.

“Are these footnotes? Why?”

Can we go back to TJ going on a date?

Does Luann go “Jan Brady” and just blurt out “Bernice, Bernice, Bernice! (apologies to Marcia)” as she feels overlooked for the umpteenth time? I know Bernice isn’t a sibling but there is a bit of dynamic here just like Jan and Marcia had with Bern grabbing the attention and Luann simply feeling ignored.

Clam up Luann. Berne deserves this.

I’m sorry for Luann, she deserves praise too. But now it’s time for Nancy to praise Bernice and help her understand that her future is in accounting, saving many people from the possibility of falling under her, potentially disastrous, “Psychological help” as a psychologist. Nancy is the only one that Bernice values and respect enough to think she could be right!

Obviously, someone needs to dust the binders.

This is not a competition!

Nancy appreciates what Bern did for her, but will always love Luann beyond description as a mother!

I agree with the comments that say let’s wait until Nancy trys to find something and can’t. Maybe she will appreciate the clean toilets better.

I don’t care what anyone says, Bernice is ANNOYING!

Well Luann, at least you have an excuse to never clean the toilets again. Hopefully Bernice will continue helping Nancy out with managing her documents and give her (Bernice) and Luann a chance to grow apart.

Is it just me? Or is Bernice trying to steal Nancy away from Luann?

I can’t understand why G&K continue to portray the namesake of this strip as a clueless, hapless ne’er-do-well.

Maybe Bernie, will get a job at the Fuse! Would solve most of her budget problems, and maybe she could join back to the dorm life? Or if she likes it here, well, just extra cash? Am I right?

And like her mom you all are ignoring the work Luann did around the house, which may be way she never does it. It is never noticed or acknowledged.

It’s sad how many technical manuals leave out an index — or just have a really skimpy one — these days.

Bern is inserting herself into the family a little TOO much.

In my experience, it’s one thing to BE organized…. it’s another thing to STAY organized.

I don’t know about Bernice being a psychologist or some such she’s studying. Seems like she’d have a great career as an accountant, forensic investigator, etc.

Now Nancy has to maintain the system.

Jeez – let Bernice have her “moment” ! She doesn’t get many of them.

Very nice portrayal of expressions, Greg Evans. Bernice in that 2nd panel shows everything from pride in her work to uncertainty as to Nancy’s reaction. Well done.

How exactly do organized binders make Nancy feel better about aging?

Am I the only one who has a problem with the family dynamic that they are creating? I think it’s really sad – showing Luann being ignored by HER OWN MOTHER while Bernice, the mean, rude, annoying little know-it-all (and supposed “best friend”) belittles and demeans Luann at every opportunity. Nancy, who is supposed to be so intuitive and caring, seems oblivious to the fact that this girl is undermining her relationship with Luann. Her ingratiating tricks and obsession with one-upping Luann is cruel and Nancy should have been able to see it happening instead of letting herself be used to perpetuate it. Stupid Nancy is showing how much she likes having a “smart daughter”. It’s sad and I am disappointed. Maybe they will fix it. I hope so.

So now Bernice knows the Fuse’s revenue and balance sheet. And probably the payroll of all of the employees, too? And Nancy is happy to have Bernice just going around ‘efficiently organizing’ a bunch of sensitive stuff without asking first?

When are we going to get back to the rich fat chick?

chasing papers does use ‘hours’. I have regions of space where I know there is high probablility of locating something. i should be able to do better than that.

Here’s something to think about -

Bernice has made herself privy to the social security numbers, bank account numbers and tax information of all the employees and the owners of the business – since most payrolls these days are auto deposit.

Nancy has violated ALL employee privacy laws by leaving her books out for anyone to look at and by doing so has committed several crimes.

Anyone who thinks Bernice would make a good accounting office employee is literally out of their minds – that is unless they want to work with a snide, back-stabbing obsessive compulsive.

GREG – KAREN – Get a grip and at least try not to insult the intelligence of your readers.

Don’t worry Luann. We appreciate you. How could Nancy think that you organized this? Your room says it all.

Of course Luann rightly gave Bernice all the credit. Nancy was talking about the organizing job and she is still talking about that topic. Luann can talk about her housecleaning after Nancy is done talking about the bookkeeping work that Bernice did.

Between the two? I’d personally be much happier with the dusting/toilets being done…

There’s a life lesson for you, Luann. You did the right thing and are disregarded for what you actually did accomplish. Fail to take credit for other people’s work and you’ll never get to be a CEO.

Nancy can have only ONE conversation at a time. She was talking about the bookkeeping being organized and she is still having that conversation. Luann is trying to change the subject like a two year old when Mommy is on the phone. Let Nancy finish her conversation before you interrupt Luann!

Don’t make this a competition, Luann. Bernice did a nice thing for your mom. Be happy for both of them, especially your mom.

I have this fever dream of Bernice as a drill sergeant and Lou Costello futzing things up.

Here’s the problem. Even though I hate Borenice, she is more genuine in wanting to help Nancy. Luann meanwhile does something that she should be doing anyway as lazy around the house as she is.

Perhaps B could be the assistant manager?

No one gets appreciated for shovelling the sh!t, Lu…give up already. :D

I think Luann would make a good bartender at The Fuse.

Some things are just easier to appreciate.

The stuff Luann did usually only gets noticed when it doesn’t get done.

Nice to see Bernice doing something useful for a change.

Luann, just go grab your keys and go out the door. Go call Jack, Tara or heck try Tiffany and make plans for the night. No one cares what you did or did not do in that house. Let Bern have her moment, as she always has to be perfect and right. Let your mom continue to gush and praise over the organization. If they don’t notice your presence, maybe they might notice your absence. Its not like Bern or Nancy would notice now if you just slipped away anyways.

Offer a job to Bernice as The Fuse Office Manager! Bookkeeping is about Organization of paperwork and forms.

When is Luann going to figure out that doing some of the housework should be a regular thing (for each of them, not just her) while what Bernice did was a special favor to Luann’s mom?

Has anybody seen Schrodinger’s Dog lately? I am extra busy with getting ready to move to a new apartment, and I haven’t read the comics as thoroughly as I usually do, but it seems like I haven’t seen any posts from him lately. Doesn’t mean that he hasn’t posted, but I was just wondering. (And if he has, and I’m just a dingbat and don’t remember, well, that’s not unusual for me, lol).

Switched at birth?

Just curious about labor and privacy laws here. If I worked for Fuse, would I be able to sue Nancy for leaving records where any random person could see them. My pay and withholding elections aren’t an outsider’s business (let alone court letters and doctor notes for jury and sick leave, respectively).
