Yup! Morals, unfortunately, come with hazards.

I (barely) managed to avoid telling my kid that story. Instead, I made up stories about Ched R. Cheese (a mouse with a predilection for sharp cheese and his friend Corny (who had a similar fascination w/ hominy and the like). Ched built a GREAT home by eating out the middle of a huge wheel of cheese (we were at the time living in a house that I was still building). They also went on adventures cribbed from my youth’s golden-book stories… and others.

But they build character!

Did his dad leave a very hungry tiger with him inside the basement, too?

I guess he wouldn’t like “Aesop’s Fables”.

That wasn’t ‘moral story’, ‘Calvin’, that was a ‘warning story’ as to what COULD happen if you keep this up ! ! ! !

Can’t Calvin read a story himself before he goes to bed? It’s a great habit to get into you know (but then again, Calvin has never been one to follow good habits.;-D).

Go, Dad

Geez, Dad. Usually parents enjoy reading bedtime stories to their kids. I did. And a kid’s story usually doesn’t take long. Not like your reading War and Peace. Once again, I’m not impressed with their parenting skills.

Morals are best when they apply to other people.

Dad needs to stop daydreaming at work so he doesn’t have to bring stuff home.

Pretty tame actually. Dad could have told him about the Dad who paid a tiger a quarter and a tuna fish sandwich to eat his son. …scary

Calvin’s right this time. Dad or Mom should have read him a bedtime story. All little kids like bedtime stories.

Calvin complains even when he gets things his way.

At least until Child Protective Services arrived.

Do they have a basement?

Someone needs to put some Harry Chapin on the record player for Dad.

What does Dad do to have to bring work home? Sales? Marketing?

What? No “Hamster Huey and the Gooey Kablooie”?

Kinda reminds me of the classic update of “Goodnight Moon” called “Go the F**k to Sleep”…

Always liked reading bed time stories to our 2 sons. Especially Dr. Seuss’s Sleep Book which nearly put me to sleep. As an illustrator/writer in Hallmark cards Contemporary Car Studio in 1962 I enjoyed all Seuss’s books & animation in his movies.

Calvin doesn’t like stories with implied threats.

Don’t like stories with morals? Then tune in to some televangelists. No morals but plenty of stories.

They never had those kind of stories when my kids were little…

Inspiration later strikes Calvin to make a similar story of his own.

Kinda pointless to give Calvin stories with morals. He can’t understand them.

My favorite is still the story Lucy “reads” to Linus.

That’s one of the most text-heavy newspaper comic panels I’ve seen.

Maybe Dilbert has some tranquilizer darts left from the other day.

I’m with Calvin on this one. Every kid needs a bedtime story every night.

C’on dad the little boy is just asking for a bedtime story. The daily routines can take a backseat.

At least locking the kid in the basement is better than what that dad is really thinking of doing.

Read to a kid, and he’ll want one every night, Teach a kid to read, and he might grow up to be a cartoonist.

Be nice to your kids, they get to pick your nursing home.

Moral shmoral, that was a threat!
