Briar Rose has either covered her trail well or had it covered for her by the Apparatus hierarchy. I love all the expressions on everybody’s faces. It seems to be Shelley’s specialty.
Meanwhile, Diet Smith’s attempt to get things back to normal might be slightly slowed by the angry mob at his gates. Mysta is looking sexy and confident at the same time in the back seat of the limo.
The most shocking thing is that Sunday Briar Rose has red hair and green eyes all of a sudden. They were brown the last time we saw her on a Sunday. I do think that the red hair suits her, even if it is kind of pinkish.
Diet looks pensive about going through/past the crowd. You should always expect a crowd when you are high profile money in a calamity. That would be like Musk if a whole huge pile of those batteries went up with large scale facilities destruction accompanied with loss of life.
The darkest period in Diet’s life since Brilliant was killed.
I am curious in knowing if Team Tracy has any crossover plans with Dan Thompson’s Rip Haywire strip. Such a venture would be quite interesting. Fans of both characters would dig it! Team Tracy and Dan Thompson both have the graphic and storytelling mojo to bring their Dick Tracy and Rip Haywire characters into a compelling and original tale, so this fan of both strips will see what happens and he hopes for the best.
Mysta does look great in today’s strip. I do wonder—What is up with the color of her legs? I don’t get that weird color unless it’s just the mad colorist again.
I haven’t commented in several days but I will say the art has been excellent. Shelly’s expressions are well done and I agree with @neil wick. All in all this has been a great thread.
Nice art, but a ho-hum Sunday with no plot momentum— the Rose dragnet is still without result, Warbucks is still in town, Diet is still in the doghouse with the public and the unconventional security team is still braced for violence.
1-SAM: Don’t mean to disrespect you by being late all the time but it’s hard to respect a boss who doesn’t even have his own office.
2-DT: For your information, I choose to sit here. The toilet is right behind me. All I gotta do is turn in my chair and Joe, the Bathroom Attendant, has the door open before I even stand up. Right, Joe?
JOE: I always got my hand on the handle, Mr. Tracy.
4-DOIT: Lousy punks! They don’t know how hard it is to be a billionaire these days. All my friends beat me on Space Ship Fun Rides – that was humiliating. Then my shot at Time Travel failed big time. 5-HORNY: Tell me again how this dress you gave me is going to help protect Doit. Does it have some kind of build-in power?

PUNJAB: HEY! GIVE A GUY A CHANCE! TRADE SEATS WITH HORNY!
I like today’s artwork as well, especially were it concerns Mysta, black trench coat, over a an "appropiate"top, short black skirt, black hose, black ankle boots. (sounds like I’m describing a pin up of Mysta. Would be surprised if DS enterprises sells those, with Mysata getting a cut, of course.)Briar Rose will be seeing Tracy-alive, and, willing to give up on the Apparatus, after they try to kill her to prevent that which will happen because of the attempt on her life.
Anyone want to guess at the rest of the (apparently) two word sign on the second panel of the last row (N___ WRO____). Of course the last word is probably “wrong” and that entire part of the panel with the protesters is probably mirroring off the window, and should therefore be inverted :)
“Meanwhile, Diet Smith’s attempt to get things back to normal might be slightly slowed by the angry mob at his gates. Mysta is looking sexy and confident at the same time in the back seat of the limo.”
Thank the Gods we are back to Diet and friends because I hate going off on tangents especially with characters I don’t know and really don’t care about!!
How long and low is Diet’s, or more likely Daddy’s, limousine, and how many rows of seats are there in it?
Diet and Daddy occupy one row, apparently forward-facing. Mysta is alone in another, seemingly in front of them and rearward-facing. Accordingly, the window behind her is the limo’s internal window, separating the passenger area from the front, service area, where we see Punjab squeezed in at the right and seemingly the limo driver—note hand above left shoulder and seemingly holding the steering wheel, though the hat is not a traditional limo driver’s cap; so, where is the Asp? Could that be him driving? The hat does not seem to me quite like the low, flat-brim and flat-topped one he wears, nor can I make out his pointed “Vulcan” ears, but maybe it is he.
In any case, this is one mob of “mostly peaceful” protestors that is unlikely to have its way!
1. Mysta seems quite over-confident..2. Good reason to think that Diet Smith has more than one facility, so I would expect him to go back to work at one of the other ones, and rely on his lieutenants to keep him informed on recovery work at this facility. Side note; doesn’t Oliver Warbucks have other work to do? There has been no mention that he and Diet Smith have any sort of joint venture.
Didn’t get a chance to read today’s strip until it was almost “yesterday’s strip.” It will take some time to get used to not seeing Joe’s brush work on the Sundays — not complaining though, as I’m a fan of Shelley’s too — but as Bob sang, “the times they are a-changin’.”
Surprised though that none of our resident nit-pickers had a conniption fit over the protest sign in the bottom-center panel. As a reflection in the car window, the lettering should be mirror reversed.
I’d just like to give kudos, about 2 years after the fact to someone who doesn’t get much praise, but often much scorn here, even among the nicer commentors: the anonymous GC colorist for the dailies, often called here, not so affectionately as the MC, for “the Mad Colorist”.
Briar Rose debuted in the dailies, where the GC colorist gave her red hair and green eyes. But when she first appeared in the Sundays, credited colorist Shane Fisher gave her brown hair and brown eyes. But I liked the dailies version better. The red hair/green eyes combo made her more attractive and more interesting to look at. And it seems somebody among the regular Team Tracy agreed with me, so here in only her third Sunday strip, she now looks the same as she has in the dailies.
So, again, kudos to the GC colorist. For perhaps the only time since Shane Fisher began coloring the Sundays, the GC colorist and Fisher diverged on what a character looked like, only for Fisher to eventually conform to the dailies version, and I feel that’s a distinct improvement.

Briar Rose expendable. Suspected in the blast
Took out her boss Nelson. The high life never lasts.
Resenting new restrictions. Many irons in the fire
Not yet recognizing situation has grown dire.
Elsewhere, Smith escorted home. Chimera has his back
Asp and Punjab on alert. There’ll be no mob attack.
Time travel seen as toxic. What protesters do not know
Sterling tried to rig the game. Reach a place he could not go.
Give him a hand. A plan so grand. Yet such miscalculation
Wished to take a little peek. Now out of circulation.

The crowd holding those signs must have never seen the time drone. Tom Thumb is the only one who could fit inside of it.
