I’ve always had a problem with “self-evident”. How does it differ from “evident”? Also, “all men are created equal” contradicts the parable of talents. Finally, why is truth seemingly subjective? I mean, what was truth to me as a child is no longer true as an “adult” (or as an individual living an extended adolescence)?

Preconceptions can sidetrack accurate intake of information

To me, context determines usage; in this case, IMHO, “..that all men..” would include both men and women. Maybe the original, historical, context did not, but I think we can safely assume that it means both biological sexes. Now if it had read “..that all males..”, then we can say that females/women were excluded.

It will be interesting, should I live long enough, to see how today’s critics of those who came before them react when their prodigy starts doing the same to them. Every generation rebels against and criticizes previous ones, often rightly, but don’t get too cocky, your turn is coming and you have/will make just as many blunders. The past is the past, can’t change it so learn from it and move forward, hopefully better equipped.
