Oh dear. At least one lap ended up without a cat. Perhaps that lap was reserved for the boy.

Elvis. Unfortunately I over indulged and could have benefit from the Roman facility called the vomitorium. Or in modern cat: The gack shack.

Elvis has envied the dining habits of Roman cats for quite a while. Nice for him to be able to match them now.

Don’t forget…..Today is the day dedicated to Shop Small….support your local merchants and keep more of your dollars in your local community. Your local shops pay local taxes that support your town and county and employ your neighbors and friends. Many also sell local produce, products and art/crafts.

Lucky for us, today will be warmer than the last few days have been; it will be perfect for strolling up and down the Main Street and popping in and out of the stores. For our town it is also the Holiday Open House day so there will be music, treats and possibly sightings of a prominent gentleman wearing a fur trimmed red suit.

    Meanwhile Back on the Nile

Queen Catshepsut the Golden: Now before we all take the post feast nap, who will help Thomios and crew clean up in the kitchen?

Elvis-Anum: I will be glad to carry the dishes to the kitchen with dignity.

Beatrixia: With my paws I’ll have the place scrubbed in no time.

Puckmosis: I’ll wrap and put away leftovers for the traditional evening snack.

Lupinium: And I’ll help wash dishes.

The Queen: Maybe you should just take it easy, Lupinium.

Lupinium: Nonsense. I’m glad to help.

    Sometime later

Maat-Tilda: Did you just hear another thwump in the kitchen?

Sophititi: How many does that make?

    Maat-Tilda: I’ve lost count.

Sophititi: Oh well. I’ve decided to design a sculpture using broken pots.

“Uh, Hamilton is licking the turkey,” my wife, Marie, said from across the room.

Up until that point, it had been a perfect day. I was finishing up the meal prep while everyone was enjoying a cocktail and talking. Hamilton had gone from lap to lap for head scritches and purrs. Mittens had found my nephew’s girlfriend, the only person afraid of cats, and decided to cure her of her phobia by not leaving her alone. The table was set, and the wine chilled.

I turned my head while continuing to whip a large pot of mashed potatoes*. “Well, somebody stop him,” I cried out, unable to stop mixing.

“Hamilton, NO! Bad kitty!” I called frantically as my wife and guests laughed. We are fortunate in the respect that all of my family have cats, and Linda, my sister-in-law, is a vet-tech/office manager.

At this point, Hamilton had finished “tasting” the turkey. It was time to rend the carcass before scavengers showed up to take it away. So he clamped down on the wing that was closest to him and began to pull.

I had bought a smoked turkey from Costco and warmed it up in the oven. This was the first time we ever tried a Costco smoked turkey, and I must say, it was excellent. It was juicy and practically fell off the bone tender. Thus, When Hamilton A. Cat tugged, the wing came off, and Hamilton fell back on his rear end, the wing clenched in his mandibles of death (that’s how kittens describe their teeth when they succeed in a hunt).

The kitten, actually managing to remove a wing, goaded my guests into action. My wife ran over, and Linda came with her. While one held the kitten, the other pulled the wing from his mouth. This was the first time anyone had ever heard Hamilton growl. It was such a sad little growl, full of indignation at losing his piece of turkey.

I wonder how the girl got the tail to curl around her as she slept like that…it was fairly clear from the costume’s previous appearances that it was “pre-curled” into the traditional squirrel shape and was designed to be held there, not loose and free-floating.

Little detail that’s not particularly relevant, I know…but still, I’m wondering.

I stayed with one sibling and visited the other for pie after the big feast, and I definitely got caught up on my dog snuggles. Since I missed last year’s T’giving and Christmas, I certainly haven’t caught up on their totals.

And a reminder from my SIL, the small animal vet. Turkey isn’t good for cats or dogs. Give them a taste and no more. Vets dread Friday after T’Day because so many pets come in with pancreatitis and various blockages from turkey bones. Don’t kill your pets with kindness.

Need some healing thoughts for Ruke. I took Ruke to the vet today for sick call. He has been sneezing and has a raspy cough plus snotty nose really bad since Thanksgiving Day. I couldn’t take him Friday because I had to take mom to chemo from 8am to 4pm. Well Ruke has an upper respiratory infection. He is still a trooper though. He was nice to everyone at the vet’s office. He climbed in everyone’s arms but sadly no purrs due to the snotty nose. He let everyone know he liked them and appreciated them except for the temperature taking (that goes WHERE?). He is on liquid antibiotics twice a day for 7 days. Of course this just extended his quarantine by an extra 5 days. He is very contagious. He did get to meet his Great Dane brother today and seemed to take it in stride.

One of my cats would sit on my lap in the evening. The other cat would prowl around my chair counterclockwise. After he did it ten times, I realized he was a “laps” cat.
