Thank you to all my Orb Friends for your condolences on the loss of our boy Frodo yesterday. Your comments and good wishes were greatly comforting. So grateful for the Mega-Orb! ā„ā„ā„
This week of game show prizes is especially, wonderfully bizarre for me, because last Sunday my mother emailed me with a YouTube link to her appearances on a game show with Monty Hall from 1987, which I hadnāt seen before!ā„ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wtHApT4qKMQ&list=PLJvreagKI95pMRoSBbc3jVsa6ulLpr4Pt&index=52
The Wheel of Stuff is a cat toy in itself! My Sophie was the only one of my cats who played with the ball-in-the-circular-track thinking, and she carefully batted it and let it roll until it stopped, so I called it āSophie Rouletteā.ā„
One time Blossom was having herself a blast in the laundry room. When I went to investigate, it turned out sheād found a small screw and was just having the time of her life!
As chaos, ensues, Puck makes a slashing motion and shouts-ā Cut to commercial, cut to commercial!ā Cut to treat commercial, with tap dancing, Yum Yum Spidersā¦
Meimei (my avatar) was the queen of the twist ties. We had those long ones for trash bags and her favorite game was to bring them to me to throw, over and over. I used to put a loop in one end for aerodynamics. Long after she died, I was finding looped twist ties in hiding places. Treasure of the Pirate Queen. I still have them.
This is so true to real cat life! Burton on the TinyKittens YouTube stream is surrounded by all sorts of toys but spent ages yesterday playing with what looked like a small square of paper. He was so engrossed and at one point stood up on his hind legs and gave three little leaps of grrr before pouncing again on the helpless piece of rubbish. It was very sweet and funny.
Today I love (1) toe beans! In first panel, (2) how happy Elvis is, (3) Burtās show biz style. But is anyone else real concerned about āglass dome with a bell in itā??? And who puts a glass dome over a bell? And why?
For Loaner Cat, itās the plastic ring off the milk jugs. Sheāll play with those for hours on end. Push them around, pick them up, which surprises me because theyāre just flat enough that I canāt ever get them off the floor, and carry them everywhere. She loves those things. And stink bugs. We have to be ever watchful of stink bugs and take them away as quickly as possible. If she irritates them too much, the house reeks for hoursā¦
Itās time to flip your BCN calendars to December with Pucky fangs and Elvis toe beans! The cats and Buzzy Mouse appear to be āhelpingā with the Christmas tree. Iām sure everything will be fine.
Dot once came walking across the bed dragging a pair of pliers by the handle. Took them to the window sill and sat on them purring her little head off.
I needed something else on the window sill and when I tried to get it, she swiped at me.
Me: āStop that. Stop that. I donāt want the pliers, I just want the pen. Will you just ā you can have the pliers!ā
Wife: āShe probably the only cat in the whole country who owns her own pair of pliers.ā
Slightly off topic: I ordered a Christmas stocking for the cats to share. I left it on the table and a few minutes later, Smudge was carrying it off. I gave each of the cats a toy and the stocking is, I hope, now out of reach. This morning, I caught Smudge trotting around with a potato. (Sighā¦)
And that is why ALL my garbage cans have lids: My compost can, my recycle can, my kitchen can and both bathroom cans. All with lids that must be lifted; tried the spinning kind, it just trapped the animal inside.
Actually ā I highly recommend pipe cleaners (longer ones). They have all the appeal of the dangerous twisty ties with 90% less danger (they do have sharp little ends that I make sure to fold over so they donāt cut themselves, but they are far less likely to eat them).
Does anything come with a wire twisty-tie anymore?
Bread has that rectanglular plastic with the diagonal cut to the middle hole. When I buy fruits in the market, I usually get the bag and just tie off the end. I do tend to buy pre-cut and washed veggies in bags ā easier than doing it at home.
Still, canāt fault Monte-Puck ā the host with the most .
We keep the twist-ties out of reach in our junk drawer, but I canāt tell you how many times Iāve found chewed up Q-tips in odd places around the house. They fish them out of the bathroom trashā¦ Also I think we probably have close to 50 ājingle ballsā in the house though I could only tell you where 3-4 of them are right now!
Message from Georgia: āāEt tu, Burt?āI have some bad news and good news on my fifth book āBehind the Scenes with Burt.ā The bad news: Supply chains are delayed everywhere (as we all know), and it will affect the release date of āBehind the Scenes with Burt.ā The good news: Only by one month! I consider that very fortunate, considering how delayed some items are right now.The great news: āBehind the Scenes with Burtā will now be released on March 15th, 2022āthatās right, on the IDES OF MARCH! Huzzah, what is up my fellow Latin and history nerds! So,ā¦ toga themed release fun right? Of course! You can pre-order your copy here: https://smile.amazon.com/ā¦/ref=cm_sw_r_awdo_navT_aā¦ or anywhere books are sold! It goes out into the world on the Ides of March and that feels kinda exciting, just saying that!āBehind the Scenes with Burtā, available everywhere on the Ides of March! Heck yissss, watch your back Julius Elvis! (ā¦oh no, I took the joke too farā
You know, Iām pretty sure Iāve actually seen stores sell a cat toy that was nothing more than twist ties. And they were charging like ten bucks for a bag of five of the things! Forget the fact that their a potential chocking hazard for a moment (just a moment). All I can recall more first thought on that was why would anyone buy something like that for their cats when they could get it off a loaf of bread if they donāt really care about the cats. My second thought was that weād never let the cats play with twist ties anyway.
Our Sally will occasionally play with the carefully and lovingly acquired ākitty kick stixāā¦but her favorite toy when sheās all feisty is a plain yellow pencil. She prefers a #2.

What goes up must come down
Spinning wheel got to go āround
If you donāt land on trouble
Itās a cryinā sin
Ride a robot vacuum
Let the spinning wheel spin
You got no yarn, no styrofoam
Buzzy Mouse ā out on loan
Playinā with danger and you
You never learn
Ride a robot vacuum
Let the spinning wheel turn
Did you win some twisty ties
On Puckyās wheel of fun cat stuff
Would you mind a catnip find?
Just let it shine within your mind
And show you the colors that are real
Ski lodge is waiting just for you
Spinning wheel spinning true
Drop all your safe toys and push them aside
Win a piece of garbage on the spinning wheel ride
Ha!
