I learned the hard way use treats in a canister rather than a bag. When my cat heard the crinkling of any kind of bag, he assumed it was his treats. The crinkle of a potato chip bag sounds nothing like the sound of a treat bag, but that darn cat was front and center the second someone so much as touched it.
I remember once calling the vet’s office to cancel a cat appointment. “I can’t come in because the cat is under the bed and I am bleeding.” “Can you come in 20 minutes?” “No, I am bleeding in multiple places, the cat weighs 20 lbs, and I can’t even reach him. We need to reschedule.” “How about an hour?” “I have to go. I am getting blood on my carpeting.” Dogs are so much easier, or at least all of mine have loved the vet.
I like to crinkle a candy wrapper, and when my dogs come running I look at them innocently. One of my dogs can’t hear me hollering at the top of my lungs in the back yard for her to come in, but she can hear the slightest crinkle of paper all the way from the back bedroom up to the living room with the TV on.
Leave the carrier out and open, with a blanket or poof in it, at all times. Most cats will think of it as a safe/comfy place rather than a cage to be feared.
My two cats have gotten special Friskies Cat Treats for years. It was getting pretty pricey so I got an idea. I bought an inexpensive small bag of regular dry cat food and put it in the same plastic container that the other treats came from. All I have to do is shake the container and they go nuts! I give them a few of the cheaper food and they think they’re in heaven.
i always placed the carrier on top of my washer and then would go get my cat and then put her inside before she knew what was happening. of course all the way to the veg she told me exactly how she felt, whining all the way there.
Last time my 70y.o. roommate was in the hospital I wound up taking his cat to an emergency vet when she coincidentally got sick, too. This time she’s hiding from me from the get-go.
Lock cat in bathroom, get bag carrier, take bag carrier into bathroom, bag cat. The bag carriers are soooooo much better than the crates and the cat is much more comfortable.

So the vet sent a reminder.

They gave up on the post card for me. I just get a text reminding me and wanting a confirmation yes or no.

C’mon, Arlo. You think Ludwig hasn’t learnt all your tricks by now?

That’s why you bring the kitty carrier out of storage a couple days in advance.

Keep the pet carrier hidden next time.

I had outside cats, oh what fun to get them into a carrier. First they had to show up. Don’t miss that circus.

Hide the carrier, and always when talking about the visitspell out the word V-E-T.

My dogs can tell when I open the doors where the treat bags are kept; as opposed to one of the other 15 cabinet doors in the kitchen.

that cat can read… or the picture gave it away.

Our late Corgi hated the vet. But, at least a car ride was involved.
The last vet visit was not a happy one though.

I have three cats. Somehow, the cat with the appointment always knows and hides while the other two watch in sleepy amusement.

I hide the cat carrier under a towel.

They can smell the vet waiting room on the reminders.

Rather than jumping to the conclusion that the cat can read, I think the postcard smelled of the vet’s office.

He needs a robot mouse which runs into the cage.

Didn’t know Luddite could read. I thought he was a cat cat, not a Garfield cat.

Glad this was explained. Not being a pet owner, I had NO idea what this strip was about.

Vet trips depended on the cat. A couple hated them & fought our attempts to get them in the pet carrier like tigers. Others didn’t mind.
A few years ago we found a vet who makes house calls, which made the task way easier.

I see that a trip to the vet is coming. Annual check-up announced by postcard.

I’ve got a dog who will mooch off me all day, but when he sees a bath towel he hides under the bed.

Hey, if dogs can talk, then I see know reason cats can’t read. :-D
