My wife asks why we’re supposed to buy a new mattress every time a holiday comes along.

Arlo is getting older and slipping. In the past he would never pass up a holiday as a all for a bonus romp in the bed. I’ve tried to model his example. It’s sad when your heroes let you down.

Sometimes I wish I still had my waterbed. Warm, comfortable and no motion.

Didn’t any confectioner took advantage of that holiday? Created the True Washington Cake that is supposed to be the one and only dessert on that day? The one that is true to the recipe of Granny Washington her grandson loved so much?

George Washington’s actual birthday is on the 22nd. Today is a federal Monday holiday, Presidents Day, celebrating Lincoln’s (12th) & Washington’s (22nd).

Free cherry pie for all. “I cannot tell a lie”. Last POTUS to say it and mean it.

And how is Janis going to celebrate Mardi Gras? Should I stock up on cheap beads?

I think we are going shopping, but that depends on when my wife gets up. She’s not a morning person.

I think that I will give thanks for George Washington. One of the best books that I have read is “Washington: The Indispensable Man.”

Remember when we had two holidays one for Washington and one for Lincoln? Now it’s one Monday for the convenience of government employees. I love it when politicians propose a new holiday for something and are surprised when the rest of us, hearing about it on our way to work on Presidents Day, Veterans Day, or Martin Luther King’s birthday, are less than impressed with the idea of another holiday.

The most suspect holiday in Boston and Suffolk County in Massachusetts is Evacuation Day, which conveniently falls on St. Patrick’s day. Evacuation day was the excuse for Boston for drinking and partying by Boston’s Irish politicians. I’m not sure if the city still observes it.

President’s Day? Maybe we could take Sleepy Joe back to the store and ask for a refund?

As an elementary student, we put on plays about George Washington and had cherry pie. Then had Cherry pie math.

They already got a post- New Year’s break, on MLK Jr. Day. Of course, holidays seem less noticeable when you’re retired.

It’s rare that President’s Day happens before Mardi Gras. Passover / Easter / Lent is just really late this year.

    Have a celebratory meal:

Taylor Pork Roll (famously made in Trenton, NJ) on a hard roll with egg and cheese.

Cherry pie, washed down with a QuickChek coffee.

This strip has been devoid of humor lately. In fact, more than once after reading it, I just sat there and scratched my head, not being in on the all too obscure references.

When I was a girl and the day was still (always) Feb 22 – there was cherry pie for sale in honor of the myth of his cutting down a cherry tree as a boy.

I thought Washington’s birthday was on the 22nd. President’s Day never falls on either Lincoln’s birthday or Washington’s birthday (and probably not on any other president’s birthday either).
