Maybe Tara found out about Bernice & Nil and decided to move on Nil. I think Tara can make things happen. We left Tara on Luann’s couch – we need to catch up.

Aww crap, are we back to this again? We couldn’t follow Luann by herself, or maybe Brad, or even give Toni her own arc for once? This strip may as well get renamed to “Bernice.”

They had something. What was it? I can hardly wait for Luann’s answer. My guesses are:

1. Shared mental instability.

2. Less brains than Puddles chasing a ball.

3. A misunderstanding of the nature of art and muses which bespeaks an ignorance of Greek mythology. Please allow me to give you a history I entitle, “The Nine Muses of Greek Mythology and Their Powers.”

4. Having an attraction to someone with only one eye Cyclopsophilia.

No, these two do not get each other. Nope. Not one iota.

The relationship is definitely not over. Bernice is too invested in it and Neil is being young and silly. If they both grow up something might happen romantically. Remember, as much as some deride and don’t dig, the point of Luannverse is to make a point(s) l, hilarity ensuing.

I have been generation gapped so many times that Luann and Bernice might as well be aliens. In my next life I’m going to pass on the teenage years and go right to the wealthy man about town stage.

Seems Bernice is content to be the muse without the pressure of a romance. Luann – no worries. She has already moved on. It was never a romance – just hormones on Bernice’s part and an agenda on Nil’s. It burned itself out. Now, you girls. It seems the only available male left is….Jack. We know Luann friend-zoned Jack and Bernice has a secret crush on him. I wonder if Bernice zeroes in on Jack (her hormones gotta go somewhere), will Luann sit back and let it be?

It’s nice to see that Bernice now is so happy to be Nil’s muse ♡. After all that indecision, she now seems to like him a lot, really and without shame. Now is not only physical, but also spiritual attraction. But understand this situation is really complicated, no wonder Luann is sure to that it’s the end of the relationship.

Bernice, just face it. You blew it. You had your chance with him and you blew it.

Way to not read the room, Luann.

Maybe they realized the whole “muse” thing sounded odd and not very romantic, so Bernice has to do what Nil did: spend a week on trying to explain it.

The last thing I want to see is another long drawn out series of cartoons about Bernice and Nil. It’s boring. The delicate nuances of the relationship between an artist and his muse? No thank you. In fact, I would be happy not to see Bernice again for a long long time. She’s a stuck up prig who thinks the world revolves around her with no grasp on reality whatsoever. Nil got tired of her craziness and let her off the hook. I wonder how many girls he’s used the muse line on? The only thing that would be interesting would be to see Bernice meet one of those girls LOL!

It’s Luann who’s misinterpreting the situation here. It was BERNIECE who first mentioned her need to break up. Only then did Nil acquiesce to it. I think he was enjoying their relationship but saw her discomfort with the physical part of it (even though she was at the same time intensely attracted to him) so he chose the high road. It think he really means it that she is his muse and he still wants to see her without being her make out partner. I believe these two will still interact occasionally but without physical intimacy or dating. This was Greg’s way of crushing that.

Luann doesn’t get it. Nil has flattered Bernice way beyond. For Luann, being a girlfriend is the goal and if you didn’t get that, you’ve lost. Hence the hand pats and sympathy. But Nil wants Bernice as his muse! The inspiration for what might be enduring works of art. Her name might endure throughout ages. We don’t hear much about the various wives, girlfriends and thots that artists had over the ages, but when one of them becomes the inspiration for his work, or maybe an entire catalog, then we KNOW her name. It gets written up in books, letters get preserved in museums. Her face or figure on the canvas (or whatever the medium) becomes sought after. Even if it is abstract, like much of Nils work seems to be right now. Romance is grand, but it isn’t the end all and be all. It looks like Bernice appreciates the significance of it right now, so I hope she doesn’t;t let Luann get in her head. No, the foray into romance may not have worked out in the pedestrian sense. But this might be a life-changing relationship for both Nil and Bernice nonetheless.

I just got whiplash from the quick arc change! Seems Luann is not impressed with the value of a muse, but Bernice is pleased, or so it appears from her expression. ;-)

This week we learn that Bernice is pregnant.

Yes they really did have something and they do now. But Bern is still very enamored though she was the one to initiate the break-up mostly because she felt she couldn’t control herself and that concern was evident from the start with all the rules she made for making out which, no doubt, she broke.

We’ll see where this leads but I doubt this is the last we’ve seen of BerNil.

They DO have something Luann——something that goes beyond mere physical attraction. They share a creative bond and apparently a friendship built on respect at least on Nil’s part. He is a classy guy. He wasn’t giving her the brush off and he wasn’t breaking up with her. He was agreeing to her request about what SHE wanted. And he found a way to stay in her life with which they are both comfortable. That’s a RARE event between men and women.

What makes you think they still don’t?

That’s a weird thing for Luann to say. Bernice told her a couple of weeks ago she was breaking up with Nil. Why is it a surprise now?

Just spend four grand on BC like Sandra Fluke says she spends a year and get after it.

Arghh, another lost week with the worst Luann storyline. Nil: dumb name, dumb character, dumb plot.

I hope Bernice enjoys being Nils’ muse. They can have deep, enlightening discussions about the subjects of his future paintings. Forks, buttons, toothpaste, lamps, napkins, styrofoam cups, soap, garbage cans…
