Grandma is right. And the idea that 45 is associated with such a grim description is quite laughable once you’ve passed that perceived “milestone”.
Really, how many of us consider menopause age to be “old”? Nobody reading this is so old that we can’t get any older, and I know for sure I’m not the only person who says, “Bring it on!”
Sorry Elly, but you hit middle age about a decade ago..On a percentage, How many 90 year olds do you see running around. My Grandmother was jogging till 94… but out of my ancestors that was 1!
Howtheduck, this is a late response to yesterday. I know everything you said. But the question was why did she start drawing Elly with a bigger and bigger nose? Especially since she started when Elly was at an age when your explanation certainly wouldn’t apply. I’d be curious if it was around the time of one of her divorces.
While I appreciate the sentiment, it also reeks a little of “Smile, honey!” that too many men say to women (I’ve never heard of it being said to a man).
It is just so awful that we live in such an age denying society.
I would never consider any cosmetic surgery kind of intervention, even those diabolical fillers are a curse.
The funny part is that children are hurriedly encouraged to do activities that are meant for older kids, such as gymnastics, and football where they ruin their bones for life.
Then when people reach age of thirty they are dam*n*ed after they reveal that milestone….
Most when she looks at herself in the mirror she says she is fat. At least with this one we get a break from the nonstop “Elly vs. Belly” story arcs.
These days you just get Botox. Now you, too, can wear a plastic face that looks like it came out of a 3-D printer! You might not be able to smile or fully open your eyes anymore, but it’s a small price to pay to pretend that people really think you’re only 35!

It would be good to see Elly smile more often, instead of her usual angry face.

let it go Elly. Your smile is the thing people notice the very most.

Thank God my wife is not that vain. After 54 years together, we should both look our age. And when you look old, people don’t expect as much of you.

I’m getting tired of people 10 years younger than me saying how old they are.

I remember being 45. What a great year scuba diving in Grand Cayman and more.
But 45 was also the age my father AND my son were when they died.

Get too many facelifts and you’ll end up talking through your hat.

What was that old song? “Let a smile be your umbrella on a rainy, rainy day”. Impractical, but I get the sentiment.

You can tell how vain women are by walking down the cosmetic aisles at Walmart or Target…

Not only is Elly dealing with menopause, she also needs to talk to Elizabeth about her forthcoming menarche.

Grandmothers often provide some of the best advice, usually because they have the experience to back it up.

An average woman with a smile is much more attractive than a so-called good looking woman who doesn’t……

Is that a carnival mirror that she is looking into? I don’t see any lines, wrinkles, or sagging skin on her.
