I wish my college started off like that. I would like to have the dorm experience, or maybe join some elite fraternity and go through a ridiculous initiation. All I did was join the Marines and do off duty education. Same degree. Less nonsense. âŠright?
John, that is VERY, VERY, POOR ADVICE to a beginning freshman especially one away from home for the first time. I learned my lesson in the first week, tried to party and got âburiedâ in class work from my professors ! ! ! !
Strips like this remind me just how much of a fuddy-duddy I am. Before I retired, the linemen gave me my âhandleâ â âParty Time.â I learned it was because I was the person in the world least likely to party. They nailed it.
Yeah, pretty much. My son went for three engineering degrees at once while applying for scholarships/grants, bought a mobile home, got roommates, that covered his living expenses, he ended up graduating with a 4.0 and owing no $! He didnât get a lot of sleep with home renovations and school projectsâŠbut no partying. Commencement speaker at his graduations!
My crew in college, or at least my best friend, wasnât a âparty-goer.â THAT is why I graduated suma c_m (REALLY?!?) laude with a 3.856 GPA. (Donât get me wro g now, I drank quite a bit, but only 1-2 a night. Except one of those 4 friendâs bachelor partyâs! I got âFACED!!!XD)
Michael may be in for a rude awakening. He pretty much goofed off in high school. And that was not exactly a top-notch school he just graduated from. The professors at the college he is going to attend may be very different from the teachers he had back home.
Lawrence better be thankful he does not live in the United States. Affirmative action can get Lawrence into any college in Canada. He is a double minority.
One warm night, early in my first year of college, there was a blackout on campus. Somewhere out in the darkness a voice yelled, âPanty Raidâ, and then the trouble really started. It took a while for the housemothers and campus cops to get things back under control since some of the young women were throwing underwear out the windows of their dorms.

Our friendâs son, when he went off to uni to do theoretical physics, had an exam at the end of the first week.

How come John wasnât expelled after that first month?
Better yet, why didnât his own father bug him into being a farmer, like he was?

Uhm, yeah, John, I wouldnât be telling him that stuff, not unless you want him dropping out after the first semester.

Itâs refreshing to see a parent who is not afraid to be honest with his child.

Good strategy, John. A teenager does the opposite of what his father advises.
