I went to junior high and high school in the 70’s. I remember once we had a 50’s day. Hard to believe at that point it was only 20 years ago. Now the 50’s seem very ancient.
1993 is as far away from today as 1963 was to 1993. If “It’s My Party (And I’ll Cry If I Want To)” sounded dated in a post grunge world, then 1993 is old timey.
My daughter’s school had a “Decades” day where you could dress from any decade from the ‘60s to the ’90s. My daughter went for ’70s and wore a shirt that I actually wore at her age in the ’70s, along with an authentic “Smilie” button and a mood necklace that was my husband’s.
The 90’s aren’t really good for a dress up day. By then we had gotten into this “wear anything” mode we are still in today. They need to at least go back to the 70’s. There are plenty of re-run tv shows for them to get ideas from.
“Old-Timey”, “Vintage”, “Classic”, and “Antique” are all relative to a person’s age. I’m vintage.
Tie-die is coming back and I suffered through it once in the 60’s and so now cringe at it’s second coming. The person looks like they were in a paint fight. I did enjoy the extra large bell-bottom jeans and the ones with panel inserts.
Other than Goth and Grunge the 90’s was kinda boring for clothing. Not like the 80’s big or spikey hair and BUM / IZOD / Parachute Pants and Cavariccis
I was born in the 1950s. It’s a bit disconcerting to go to a museum and see things you remember as a kid on display as historical artifacts, particularly if it’s something you owned. What’s worse is if it’s something that is now a collector’s item and worth a lot, not that I would sell it. I still have Popeye and Mighty Mouse figures.
I’m a 60 baby and grew up in mostly the 70’s. To me the 70’s were great! The 80’s and 90’s music changed so much and me raising babies in 86 and 91 it’s all a blurr. LOL
Here’s a quick run down of American everyday national costume which has been copied wordwide:
Jeans and t-shirt or a sweatshirt is timeless attire. It was popular then and more than ever nowadays…
That everyday fashion started in the fifties…until then, the jeans and t-shirts were already there from the gold rush days, it’s just that the people wore old worn out dress shirts on top, until those pretend cowboy top shirts became popular, but they quickly were replaced by the sweatshirts in the later sixties and they are still with us today, but the hoodie was added…
The changes in jeans were from skinny to bell bottoms, to skinny and wide leg popular nowadays…plus the waist fit, to hip fit, to waist fit again…

Nice to see Hammie’s sense of self-preservation is keeping his big mouth shut.

I kept one suit and one sport coat and slacks from before I retired, but I gave away the rest of my work clothes.

Never liked this trope. Kids will call something from the past old sure but most don’t think 20 years ago is ancient.

As someone who went to school in the 1960’s I try to forget the ’90’s.

In the ’90’s I wore denim, now I wear cargo pants/shorts. Other than that, not much has changed.

Go grunge, I guess? But then I suppose that’s Hammie’s typical mode anyway.

That’s because the teachers were born after the ‘90s, and they think it’s old-timey.
