My daughter has a stuffed puppy that she values almost as much as Calvin does Hobbes. If I could only save one thing from my house in a fire, you can bet I’m ignoring the high value electronics, cash, and firearms and I’m saving that puppy. It cannot be replaced.

Aww, this is so sad. I’ve never seen Calvin cry like this over Hobbes. I’m like BE THIS GUY, I have something in my eyes too.

Watching a British show called The Repair Shop. A woman brings in a dilapidated doll that she lost 63 years previously in the war. It was found and returned to her and she wanted it fixed. They did an excellent job and she was very emotional over it. Great show.

Chill out, kid! No two-bit punk would steal a plush toy. They’re not even worth a half of a dime bag!

I’m going out on a limb here, but I predict that Hobbs will soon be found! Otherwise the strip will have to be renamed… “Calvin!”

My bears Ted, Ed and Ned have been with me/us since 1994. Ted used to ride shot gun at all times, but he is the back seat driver now and Ed and Ned are in the bookcase headboard.

I really wish that Mr. Watterson would start penning the comic strip again!!

No worries, Calvin. Cats are great at hiding when necessary. Our cat flat out disappears when she’s on afternoon break.

When I was a kid, I was always puzzled by reports of burglars stealing silverware. “Why?”, I wondered. “It’s not particularly valuable. You can get a complete set of it at any Sears or JCPenney’s. And it’s bulky and hard to carry.” Eventually somebody explained to me that what I was thinking of was ordinary tableware, made of base metals, not the fancy-schmancy actual silverware that posh folx used. But when you’re a kid you don’t think of how the language has evolved, only of actual things you’ve seen yourself.

If you think he’s valuable but the thieves did not, then you’ve got the best of both worlds.

If we go back to the 6th, the 4th panel shows Hobbs’s tail hanging over the edge of the unmade bed (presumably Calvin’s unmade bed). He’s under the covers and probably unnoticeable by anyone not actually looking for him

Nothing; not vegetarian meals, going to school, getting in trouble, taking swimming lessons, not even going camping can make Calvin more sad than losing Hobbes.

in the movie “A night to remember” one woman takes her ’lucky’toy pig and leaves behind a box of jewels. often ‘value’ has little to do with a price tag. by that scale. to a little boy, Hobbs is priceless

Children can be extremely attached to their dolls. In Family Affair, Buffy was extremely attached to Mrs. Beasley, because it was the last gift she received before her parents dies. In Aliens, Newt is attached to her doll as a source of comfort in facing the horrors of the aliens. She knew it was a piece of plastic. Calvin has no friends (his occasional encounters with Susie notwithstanding), and it’s an enormous source of comfort to him to imagine that his doll is a living friend.

I had a mild panic this morning. My wallet wasn’t in my shorts. But,before I go full Donald Duck, I checked the likely possibility. There it was, downstairs, next to the toilet. The shorts are relaxed fit and the pockets too.
