That’s never worked for me.

At work, i always found it easier to be busy than to look busy. Maybe I’m not doing it right.

I’m always too busy to mess with looking busy.

That’s what a man-cave is for. Or Calvin and Hobbes’ tree house: No grlz allowed, to give you chores… so you don’t need to pretend to be busy.

It would be ironic if Opal can’t stand a busybody.

I was fortunate enough to never have to look busy. When I had work to do (which was most of the time) I looked busy. When things were quiet, I felt no pressure to fake it and could relax.

Ain’t that the truth.

Then there was that time-honored phrase I used in the Navy: “Milling about, smartly.” ;-p

There were “slacker days” when I…slacked. Quite often, though, I’d have honestly done my To-Do List and had nothing on the go. I pretended to be busy because the Boss would find some miserable project to fill the time. “Those files in boxes in the basement? Find the ones from 1983-85 and organize them.”

Get a lot of that in the construction trades, worker will carry a pipe wrench (or some other tool) and just wander around, never does any work but always has an excuse that he is off.. to fix something.

It looks to me like Earl is reading GoComics on his laptop. Or am I looking at a mirror image of myself?

I have perfected this technique at work.

I’m too efficient for penny-pinching bosses, who can’t stand to see anybody idle while on the clock.

Hey, I have done everything. There’ll be more work soon enough, but if I’m doing busywork just because, the new work may end up being done late.

Inefficient.

We are retired Earl, we don’t have to look busy anymore. We can do whatever the heck we want, just like Opal.

GOOD POINT…….. like picking up PENCIL SHAVINGS..?

Earl needs some spine (or may be a lot of it).

At work, if you can have three monitors with technical stuff on them, multi-shirking (thank you, Scott Adams) becomes much easier.
