Angelica whispered the Magic Kingdomâs secret word, âKissimmeeâ to Orlando, and they were transported on the most marvelous ride ⌠until the dark and evil lord, Ronaldo De Satan tried to stop themâŚ
(syntax supported by the Google, Bing, Yahoo, DuckDuckGo, and Ecosia search engines) in the browser address bar (or search for it using one of those search engines) and choose the first Category: found and once there find the text string 6659, and click its link for info and links that point to more info (perhaps best viewed using the Mozilla Firefox browser, which can automatically translate most webpages if necessary, Google Chrome currently fails) about this roughly A4 paper size, oil on paper on cardboard painting.Â
Again, a larger strip image is shown by (Ctrl- or right-) clicking the image in Mr. Melcherâs MASTERPIECE #3316 (May 6, 2024) blog entry, accessible by the Check out the blog! box after the last comment, and using the dropdown menu (even larger, if you trim whatâs after .png from the URL). I have added a comment there pointing the blog entry with my comment pointing to info about this artist I used to point to here. So far, 4 works by him have been used here, the January 24, 2022, strip being the prior.
In the sister painting, the creature is a horse in the front and bird tail in the back. Plus, Ruggerio is the one that is nude. Definitely not as interesting as this painting.
Sigh; both âhumanâ characters have the ever-so-common in these paintings teeny-tiny feet; sheâs too chunky and WAY too young (it appears) for my taste or approval, and I hope she brought some sun block; but⌠the hippogriff doesnât object to her riding â maybe heâs hoping for a vice versaâŚ.I dunno.

By letting Angelica steer, Ruggerioâs hands were free to do other things.

/// Epic poem âOrlando the Furiousâ
has some details that I would call spurious.
They include (in Italian)
a half eagle, half stallion:
hippogryff, and a sea monster. Curious.
/// Orlandoâs a brave Christian knight,
who for Charlemagne wages a fight
against Saracens, yet
this great cause heâll forget,
for a pagan he loved at first sight.
/// Sheâs the Princess Angelica, and
several others compete for her hand.
She wonât Orlando wed.
Later, sheâs to be fed
to the sea serpent, Orc, as was planned.
/// A bold Saracen knight loves her, too.
It is he, Ruggiero, who flew
eagle-horseback to where
sheâd been chained naked there.
(Itâs that chivalrous thing that knights do.)

His other ride is the earlier version with the donkey behind instead of horse behind. It was a really half-assed ride.

I looked at the painting and laughed/
At the vision of Johann P. Krafft./
Though he followed the text/
I departed, perplexed/
Concluding Krafft must have been daft.
