I like how most of Wallace’s ideas are active, and Spud’s are sedentary – there’s a lot of “thought” behind those choices!

For those of you who haven’t been to Rhode Island, Spud’s last item in the first panel is a Del’s Frozen Lemonade, an Ocean State speciality. Especially appropriate on these scorching hot summer days.

What is our gull friend thinking of besides a fish skeleton and a hot dog? Is that a pair of pilings for sitting on and gazing philosophically out to sea?

This is BRILLIANT Will Henry! It captures the entire process by which little kids go through the entire litany of possibilities to fill their day and then logically end up with dinosaurs!! Can I assume the large ape was a possible visit to the zoo? Again BRILLIANT

I love how you can hear the Thwap of the ball smacking into the glove in that moment of silence when they realize they landed on a shared idea. This strip and its creator are simply genius.

This was me and my best friend when I was about 10. We saved our allowances to buy the deluxe box of dinosaurs from the discount dept store. There was a large field behind my house – we dug out a big ditch that was our stage for playing with marbles, cars, army men and dinosaurs. Those were good time.

The gull is center stage in the title panel: Each letter of W-A-L-L-A-C-E and B-R-A-V-E is announced (? somehow) by the cocky fellow in a separate speech balloon, creating a vast cluster (stems of the top ones are tucked behind the bottom row). There’s one more balloon in the middle for “THE.” Some gopherlike creature is popping up from the ground to say “by Will Henry.”
