If he didn’t want more while they were living there, why does he want to build more, just to abandon them… and without even knowing whether the new owners will want them?

There is no reason to rush into things. Give it another 50 years.

Arlo wanting to put in more shelving that Janis has been asking for for years, tells her that he heard her but didn’t want to do it for her. Doing it for potential new owners what he didn’t do for her, hurts her feelings. I love Arlo and Janis because they really do seem to love each other, but this is a faux pas, Arlo.

Maybe now we’ll get a year’s worth of hilarious strips where Arlo vacillates between building shelves or not building shelves. Throw in Gus giving project advice and the cat sleeping on Arlo’s tools and you’ll have a hilarious, award winning comic strip.

You’re a day late and a dollar short with that thinking Arlo. You should spent the money ten years ago and built the shelves then.

Janis looks like she thinks they should shelve this idea.

Not a real good week for Arlo. It wouldn’t be so bad if he kept his mouth shut but, then, we wouldn’t have this strip.

I worked for a cabinet maker while I was in high school after school and on Saturdays. Building a proper, quality cabinet isn’t easy, but rather a painstaking process to get the joinery perfect and everything square.

One of those home improvement projects that you lose money on.

Better shelve that idea, Arlo!

There is always a need for more shelves…you don’t want your books to be stacked on the floor.

Years ago, I built a bunch of shelves in the “library” room, still use them. Now if I need a shelf, I buy one of those chrome wire ones.

Yes, she would. If you’d thought of building more shelves YEARS AGO.

Why think of doing what she had wanted all along but doing it now for somebody else? Go fig.

This may be an unpopular opinion, but if Janis though the shelves to be so important, why couldn’t she have installed them herself? Or does this fall under the “That’s a man’s job” umbrella?

So much is said by her eyes in the last frame. Great way to say a lot with a few tiny lines!

LOL! A day late Arlo… A day or two late!

No more shelf building for me. I put up another 24 sq. Ft. of shelving suddenly there is 24 sq ft of more dust catchers.

He won’t build them for her, but would for some unknown person. Yeah, she’s torqued.

Storage space means a place to store stuff, maybe there should be something like a construction skip to un-store things

Honestly? Do you really want to move? You keep talking about it, but there also seems to be some hesitation?

Comment 1: I’m thinking (and this is just a speculation) that Arlo is really planning on shelving to make the house more attractive to Janis, not to potential buyers. This arc is getting deeper and more complex all the time.

She’s mad that he is building shelves now whentheyare planning to move, instead of 20 years ago when SHE wanted them.

“Arlo, If we needed storage, you could have built it long before now when we don’t need more storage because we are supposed to be getting rid of things!” Oh yes. I’d be mad too.

Since the move is still very much up in the air, it could be Arlo is hinting at the greater benefits of staying. Just my take on it, but it sounds like Janis is a “go” and Arlo is a “stay.”

Had he made the effort to build HER the extra storage space she needed way back when, instead of prospective buyers this woudn’t be a discussion, and she wouldn’t be upset.

Why would you want to leave a home where your established and happy to move to Florida? Cost of living crazy, hurricanes and flooding and insurance rates to make you bankrupt and cry.

I think you’d better shelve that idea, Arlo.
