Sorry to harp on it, but when will Janis change hair color? It Just doesn’t suit her. Makes her look old and lethargic, not a vibrant woman, as she usually is.
Aside from the fact that most people recognize the day as Indigenous Peoples’ Day and have for years, what’s the joke here? It’s a federally recognized holiday, so, yes, the post offices are closed. There’s no mail on Sunday, so is that how you know it’s Sunday? What a lazy strip.
I am “Native American” and I never was bothered by Columbus Day. He did what he did and that was that. I do find it interesting how sensitive some people are. It is Columbus Day to me.
All the mailbox is is a trash receptacle. The Trashman/Letter Carrier brings a handful of trash, and I take it and throw it away for him.
Columbus himself absolutely detested mail delivery, so that’s why, out of respect, the Post Office reluctantly stands down. It’s similar to the custom of car dealerships offering specials to celebrate George Washington’s birthday, out of respect for our first President’s fondness for the concept of automobiles, not fully realized in his lifetime.
Funny how Columbus didn’t discover America. He never stepped foot on the mainland, just landed on one of the offshore islands, his crew raped the native women, killed natives, gave them smallpox, pillaged, then went back to Queen Isabella who BTW was instrumental in instigating the Spanish inquisition where thousands of people were tortured and executed in the name of “Religion”. Nice guy. But Canada was first settled by Vikings in Newfoundland, and that doesn’t say anything for us either. lol
And the latest news: DNA specialists were asked to examine the remains in Columbus’ tomb and that of his two sons who are buried in tombs beside him. They wanted to make sure that it was Columbus who was really buried there. The results were announced a few days ago. Yes, it is Columbus in the tomb, but there was more. Columbus was a Sephardic Jew.
Why don’t we all get in our time machines and go back and rectify all wrongs done to everyone before they ever happened? I am black with Native American (Indigenous people ) mixed in. We can only go forward not backwards.
OK, Columbus turns around and leaves two huge continents. Now wait for the folks in Asia to discover them—-would you like that outcome better? Didn’t think so.
Columbus??? What a joke! And a MONSTER who commited atrocious acts against the REAL pepole who discovered this land! He’s also the world’s WORST sailor as he got LOST on his way to India (which is why the ORIGINAL people here are STUPIDLY called "Indians)!
Our regional newspaper had a number of articles today on the entire subject of Columbus as well articles on the various local counties/incorporated communities and that they differ in calling the day Columbus Day, Indigenous Peoples’ Day or both.

In the US, we should go with Indigenous Peoples’ Day. That’s a worthy holiday.

Columbus wasn’t the first person to discover the new world. But he was the last.

The chances are about 50/50 that I’ll forget and check the mailbox when I get home from work.

Columbus was a terrible person who didn’t actually discover anything. I really don’t understand why y’all decided he deserved his own day.
