I don’t get why I must conform to other people’s hyper-sensitivities. I’m not trying to be rude or inappropriate.
I especially don’t understand why tv and movies need to. I Love South Park. Yes, it’s disgusting at times, but if you don’t like it don’t watch it. Don’t try to stop other people from enjoying it!
I’ve always found trigger warnings kinda dumb. I think Zhen from Kung Fu Panda 4 summed it up well when she said, “Third rule: No one’s interested in your feelings.”
Hey, Bob. It’s your bomb, your load, your trigger and your safety catch. You can choose whether or not to control yourself. NFL is handing out bigger fines for miming a gun than for an illegal hit that injures an opponent.
The comic is obviously exaggerated. Consideration for your fellow American is all most people ask for. Not “conformity”, nor forced acceptance. Just consideration for another’s differences with your own. The mature adult can handle that, no problem. The immature will fight against giving that consideration tooth and nail, as the ignorant are want to do. They will claim their right to insult, be prejudiced, and hateful. The racism, bigotry and misogyny tRump brings back in his 2nd term will keep us mired in the immaturity at least another 4 years.
Be nice to Neighbor Bob – give him the number to a good psychiatrist or therapist to get over those things that seem to “trigger” him and make him unable to deal with society.
If he plans to using that, be kind with words as he gets past his issues. if not – he has no issues he cares to deal with and thus so shouldn’t you.
The new Golden Rule is not “Treat others as you would yourself” but “Treat others as they wish to be treated.” And why not? Oddly enough, I found myself doing this with my 4 year old tantruming about something I apparently didn’t do right. I asked, “Can you use your words and tell me exactly what I need to do?” It worked! She calmed down, told me, and everyone was happy. So if someone want’s to be called Them, just do it. It is respectful, even if it feels weird (I admit it does for me).
Please grow up, Pastis. Obsessing over this culture war stuff is what got Scott Adams dropped by his syndicator, and it doesn’t do good for your mental health either. Kindness costs nothing, and with the world close to ending, we need as much kindness as we can get.
Don’t worry about people’s so called triggers. If someone says don’t talk about this or that, talk as you wish after suggesting they leave or insert airpods or whatever. We need to exchange info unfettered by each others neurosis or “triggers.” When I feel that way about something I bear it and move forward. It’s okay. Live.
Pretty sure the role of ‘Neighbor Bob’ in the Pearls universe is to represent all the various sensitivities that people get worked up over. Personally, I find it much easier in life to just be a curmudgeon that everybody with sensitivities will usually avoid. Does that make me more like Rat?
There are people who are overly offended by “trigger” words. Then there are people who are overly offended by people who are overly offended by “trigger” words. All the while, people are being gunned down every day by people pulling actual triggers, but that somehow triggers less offense than “trigger” words.

Look up The Academia Waltz by Berkeley Breathed for May 24, 2022. One of my favorites. Even in 1978 this was going on.
